Everyone has different tastes as Noheadlights said and I agree! I like Barber half's in 58 with the "BU San Francisco Morgan Dollar look"!
Might be dipped but not washed out! You can't get that look from a washed out coin and I'm sure most know it. The reverse of coin #2 is a great photographic example! Do you think that is washed out????

D - You asked twice to chime in... so here are my thoughts:
Love the mellow golden look to #1's reverse but #1's obverse is not as strong as #2. What is difficult about #2 is that elongated horizontal cheek scrape on Liberty's face. The pictures might be deceiving but #3 is dark (vs. "flashy" like #2) so....
strike and flash despite mark(s) wins the + IMO. #2
A Barber Quartet is made up of Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, and Halves.
I take that as a vote for #2? Thanks for chiming in! I can't look at the coin at the moment but if my memory serves the scrape you are referring to is virtually non existent! My pictures do tend to amplify marks considerably as opposed to an in hand look! #3 is mostly white unlike my picture with subdued...albeit original luster.

Sorry, but this is funny>>>BU San Francisco Dollar look," do you mean dipped/washed out and blast white?
I can't help it... It just seems to me that Barber coinage isn't meant to be blast white. It's like a Twinkie without the cream filling; it just seems so wrong to me.
That's because there are so few that are the crème de la crème in my opinion! Pun intended! I have several that are PL and PCGS finally gave me a + on 1! Only took 4 or 5 tries. How many PL Barber Half's have you seen???

Darrell - I've given up trying to guess which way our hosts will go on what's a plus and what isn't. As you know from our discussions at your table, when viewing your coins in hand I usually don't see it the way our hosts do.
Vern l It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got.
Yes I do and that is a very good response! I'm just glad you and Jim aren't after the kindda 58's I am!

No. It is the number of prooflike Barber half dollars I have seen.
Personally I think #2 is hands down better and 1 I have tried several times to get a + on. I will probably eventual try it again. It will remain with me until I improve it or finally get a +. #3 will hold the spot in my set for now. I am going to upload slab shots of #1 and #3 now. I don't have one for #2 but will take one if it seems needed!
Thanks for everyone's participation. Obviously everyone has different tastes!
As I've stated before the only way for + grading to work is to recall every coin ever slabbed and re-grade them from scratch. Since many previous non plus graded examples over the last 30 years may far exceed a modern plus. I like the old NGC Star system far better to some degree although there too at times you scratch your head wondering what the graders thought was so special about a coin designated as such?
To Err Is Human.... To Collect Err's Is Just Too Much Darn Tootin Fun!
I only see one minus. #2, and that's primarily due to the exposed chatter, after a dip. But that's the way "market acceptable" goes. I like it the least, but it's still okay. I would pay the premium for #1

1 looked like a circulated AU55- so no 58+
2 looked like a circulated obverse and mintstate reverse,
3 has a lot of action over the face and right field of the obverse-but no major run and solid unc reverse. Also looks original. Best shot at 58+
