Years ago I bought some sets in old Whitman Albums. Well, I am in the mood for selling and I figured I would check the 1972 before I list her. Well don't you know.....

That IS a doubled die for that date, however I don’t believe it is die #1. Doesn’t look as pronounced as the Coinfacts example.

I am positive it is DDO-008. yes not worth as much, but I like her. And how often do you get DDO's.

It's still an attractive coin for being in an open tri-folded album. Nice score!

What are the odds? I wonder if the original collector knew.....

Yeah, looks like #8 to me.
The #8 and #3 are probably the "easiest" to find ( not wanting to take anything away from your find.)
Nice eye to spot it. :):)

I doubt it. He took this collection/accumulation in five big bins to several local shops and no one made offers above silver for anything. Most didn’t want to look beyond the medals and non numismatically significant stuff. He had many many books and pages of circulated Kennedy halves, nickels from 1938- 1968, circ Ikes, circ quarters. Lots of clad worth face. Proof sets and mint sets and several press in Whitman’s. I was a last resort and bought his whole collection for face and silver spot at the time. Over a few weeks of sorting and selling I got him an extra 2k or so out of the stuff he had that was better than melt. I guess I overlooked this one.....I don’t always use a 30x loop.

I agree with mannie gray. Both of those dies, and to a lesser extent Die #2, were easy to find back in '72 whilst looking for the "big one." Never did find that one, tho-it was pretty well publicized right from the start.

There you go bingo you saw it. That's what this is about finding stuff others don't see good eye.

Nice catch.... even if it is not the 'big one'... it is still a DDO... I would keep it.... Cheers, RickO
