Hard to not give props for any of your cards, seriously. But that 53 topps Mantle is so sexy. WOW!
Thank you for the nice words. The bottom photo is just to show the case - had to sell the 8.5 to grab the Mantle rookie 2 years ago. I was always told to give up the good to get the great. The 53 Mantle I got really lucky on that pickup - have no idea how it snuck through eBay when I bought it for what I paid for it.

It's funny how we pick our demarcations -- but I have really enjoyed this thread and all showcasing threads, whether they be high or low.
While I do love my low grade cards, and I feel they do present well, I don't think I really have some of the unicorns where you glance at a card, think it must be a 7, but it's in a 4 slab and you have to hunt a half an hour for the micro-wrinkle. Those are the types of cards that are a heartache if you sent in raw, and hoped for a 7, yet they are a joy if you find one for sale and it's priced reasonably, considering how good it looks for the grade.

Really like your collecting style and the gems you show, high grade and low. I admit I'm kind of sad you sold your '51 Bowman Mick, but cool that you did well on it and it ended up with someone who really really wanted one. Excellent all around.

This one has some scuffing on back that looks uniform to me, like it might have happened in the manufacturing process. The front looks decent overall - slightly out of register/focus. It's my kind of PSA 2, though.
Actually (unfortunately) what happened to that '57 Rocky, is it was placed at one time into one of those old-school photo albums with the diagonal adhesive glue lines on each page, then covered with a thin plastic film that was attached to the page. You placed your polaroids (or baseball card in this case) and once it was stuck... still, glad you got it for a good price.

Ah, you're right. I remember those albums in the 1970's/early 1980's. That makes sense. Thanks!

Sorry that it happened to your card! But on the other hand, at least you weren't the guy (or gal) that originally put it there!

That 76 Bench sure looks like a 9 in a 6 holder. Tiny wrinkle somewhere?
Agree that the card has great eye appeal. The only thing that I can see is some "snow" and there appears to be a slight notching on the left border almost parallel to Johnny's right forearm.
Good call on the notch, I could see that as being the almost-invisible cause. Hard to see in the holder but it might show if you bounced light off of it (best as you can through the holder.)
That Colavito looks like it was in one of those old 70s photo albums where you stuck it on the page that had slight adhesive on it and then flipped over the plastic page cover.
I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.

The corners on that 76 Bench are razor sharp. Not sure if it is dust on the card or if that is snow on the image. When you zoom in a bit you can see a lot of white specks on the image. That might be a big part of the reason especially if no qualifiers were requested when it was graded. The corners and centering are incredible on that card.

Thank you for the note, and would have liked to have kept the 51 Mantle but decide to move it for a couple of reasons. Liked the card a lot but never collected Bowman. Was out in Oregon for sales meetings and had it saved on eBay through pwcc sitting in the hotel, and surprised it went for what it did - strong price but not crazy price.
Decided I had other items I would rather have and listed it on here and eBay. Got some low ball offers and some decent ones but nothing exactly where I wanted it. Was going to make some $ but not be greedy. Guy on eBay sent me an offer but we were still off so took it down. Fast forward to a couple of months later and he emails me asking if I still have it and I say yes. He says will you still take $14k and change for it and I say yes. He then says how much do you want for it, and I nicely send him a note back saying you asked if I would take $14k+ for it so let's start there.
He tells me he has wanted one since he was 11 which was 30 years ago and can now afford one and wants a really nice one. He had seen the scans and was worried about doing a deal through PayPal with a stranger. I tell him I understand, and will get him the card overnighted, insured, and signature required. I send him scans of the package, me at the post office with nice lady behind the counter...
He gets it the next day and sends me an email saying "this is even better than the photos and thank you for doing the deal. I have always wanted a nice one and 30 years later I have my card!" At that point all sellers remorse is out the window since I was glad I made another collector happy to have found the card they wanted. At the end of the day that is what the hobby is all about.
For me the fun is about sharing experiences or else I would not be back in the hobby, and my son enjoys collecting and wife is all for it. She tells me to buy what I want, and goes to every National with me except the last two for the last 10-12 years. I have learned a ton from several great people on this board for which I am very grateful. Matt(DM) for knowing how to find the perfect card no matter the grade and teaching me about eye appeal, Grote (Tim) for his knowledge of unopened and 70's items, Jeff(Card Country) for being the man when it comes to having the best items for sale and anyone who has ever dealt with him or his family knows there is not a nicer group of people to deal with in the hobby period. There are tons of others, but every year I look forward to the National and after meeting so many board members in AC and Chicago last year it does not get any better than this group here.
Now I am saving up to make a run at the Natty to find a few sweet items in 6+ months and trying to keep the budget intact
Having met Jeff (Card Country) once at a Chicago show (not the national) and conversing with him in PM's, I agree, there is not a nicer guy to deal cards with.

Some sweet cards!

That card needs to be quoted.

The side borders on that 53 Mick have zero tilt at the top end, great card.

Couple of cards in their custom carrying case which can survive being stood on by a 200 Lb man. One is a 3 and the other a 4.
Pair of Mantles both are PSA 5's.
Need to get another carrying case. Have one on wheels that holds about 150 PSA cards and this one which holds 14 plus a display tray.

This is really a gem, just the type of T206 HOFer that I'd love to get, be it Rube or anyone.
I look carefully enough at the scan, and I can see the wrinkles coming in at the sides; but am pretty well blinded by the centering and corners. Man!

Agreed, and I do need a Gibby RC one day! This thread has inspired me to be patient, and not settle for an o/c one, as so many of them are.

Not sure. The card looks flawless to me. My only guess is the line above “Catcher” on back.

I'm just going to sell it and hope it can command a premium. Every time I look at it its like a dagger in the heart lol
Okay, if we're going this high in grade...
