This is you!!??
Sorry to hear that.
The guys at my local coin club have said their plan was always to liquidate their collections themselves, instead of having their heirs do it poorly. So it may be time to consider that.
First, sorry to hear it.
But if it were me, I'd be looking for the best "hands off" method of disposing of the collection as would be appropriate. (Which depends on what it contains).
Might be Heritage, or Great Collections, or consignment to a dealer, or flat out sale to a dealer....whatever.
But I wouldn't spend a whole lot of my time and energy squeezing the last nickel out of it. There would probably be a whole lot more important things on my mind.
Sorry about the diagnosis.
I would go with:
BST
Great Collections (heritage fees are too high)
A trusted dealer
Put the small stuff on eBay maybe.
So terribly sorry.
I agree with tommy.
Yes it is me I know several dealers. Most are just traded sold bought from other GSA collectors. ACS the main collection reg. Tim's Gem's

let the people that you love and trust, and that love and trust you, know now.
Even stage 4 Hodgkin is Beatable
So just ship the collection to a honest dealer or auction house and put that out of your mind. Your focus now is too get great medical attention reduce stress and enjoy life. Prayers to you as I am sure all your friends here send their positive energy and wishes. You will beat it!!!
I asked in OP. What would you do. thx
Yes, it is beatable.
Sell in a way that it is not a chore. Perhaps GC.
I am here to listen.
Wow, so sorry to hear about that. Do what you got to do, and if that is to go ahead and get your collection sold then do it so family does not have to bear the burden if it is something that they do not care about. A good dealer to sell to or consigning it to one of the better auction houses could be the way to go. Best of luck to you in your battle to beat this unfortunate event.
I'm sorry to hear this and I wish you all the best fighting this if that is what you chose to do.
As far as the coins go, I would have someone else sell them and not spend my time left here worrying about the headaches that go along with selling stuff.
Good luck and best wishes,

Sorry to hear the news!
There are many different types of Lymphomas and the prognosis varies. I would be sure to talk with your Oncologist about the type you have and what the 5 year outlook is.
After that, you can make a more informed decision about what you want to do.
I'm sure there will be many here pulling for you.
tim, beat it for sure. Graded, great collections, raw: great collections and let them get them graded. Just call them and talk it out.

Look. That news sucks. Still, one or two weeks won’t make any difference. Think about it for a while and make sure you make the right choice. If you end up doing much better than expected (it really happens!!) you don’t want the regrets of making a rash choice when things were at their darkest.
Best of luck and don’t be afraid to ask your doctors very direct questions. Make them think. They’re there to work for you.
I would not know what to do. I guess I'll try to keep strong and put things in place. Time is what is needed to liquidate a big collection, you can send it to a big auction house and take what they give you or consign it to them and let them do all the work and when auction off they will give you or your loved one the proceeds. Hope who ever is sick can just spend time with there love ones and have as much fun as they can for how ever long they have here. I'm so sorry to hear this...
Hoard the keys.
So sorry to hear this Tim.
Aw, crap. I'm very sorry.
I guess I'd follow Bryce's advice and take a little time to think it over. Then I'd probably choose a good dealer I've worked with and seek his guidance.
I hope you find some happier news soon.
Lance.
Recently diagnosed with cancer myself, my coin collection is the least of my worries. Find a dealer you trust, let them sell it off with pre-set commission, leave a precise inventory/images/estimated values with someone you trust and worry about getting appropriate treatment to fight this dreaded disease. Best wishes, Woody

Very sorry to hear. I hope you beat it.
Best advice I ever heard was to simply order the estate to auction it (pick your favorite auction house) and split the money among the heirs to keep them from either having to worry about it or fight over it.
Good luck. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
This is never good news. So sorry to hear. I don't know the size or value of your collection, but selling it off quickly at an auction house may be easy but is it the wise way to go? There are many sharks in the water and you'd probably like to get top dollar. Is there any interest in your family/heirs for coins? It might be a better legacy to leave them in a will. Do whatever makes you feel happy. And focus on your health and life, none of us are taking anything with us-
Sorry to hear this
So sorry to hear this Tim.

Terrible news. I would take them to a coin show and walk them around the floor if my health allowed it. This would take my mind off the cancer, let me do something I love (go to coin shows), and get the best deal I could. I would fly to the next big show first class, stay in a fancy hotel with my wife, drink top shelf single malt scotch, and eat at the best restaurants.
I know many people wouldn't want to spend the time going to a show but honestly it is something I have always enjoyed since I was a young kid. My wife, kids and I could make great memories out of it and make it a great vacation.
So sorry to hear this.
I know that some types of lymphoma, even late stage, can be chemo responsive. I hope that you can be treated.
You will be in many of our thoughts and prayers. Same to woodenjeferson. G-d bless you guys.
My friend was cancer free in 9 monthes after his stage 4 lymphoma diagnosis. Put the coins away. Make a will with directions for your inventory. Fight the good fight my friend. They are beating cancer at higher percentages. The will to kick cancers butt is critical. God bless.
Sorry to hear the diagnosis and hope you are able to liquidate what you want to. Get the best referrals you can with your #1 priority. I wouldn't underestimate the value of giving a ten percent or more to a good charity with all the disasters and suffering in the world. What I have tried to do.
Very sorry to hear, gsa1. I agree with Tommytype. I also like what Dennis1219 posted, I hope theres hope for you.
Sorry to hear your bad news. Yeah, you gotta do the decision-making part of liquidating the coin collection yourself. If it were me, nobody in my family could do it successfully. Best wishes and good luck to you.
Sorry to hear this. If your collection is mostly or entirely GSA dollars, I'd look up auction prices and list them all on BST priced accordingly. After a couple weeks, send the rest to Great Collections and be done with them. You want to sell on your terms and not burden someone else with trying to figure out what to do. There are plenty of other trustworthy dealers here that would be able to help with things that fit their niches.

Sorry to hear this. I hate hearing news like this about people I have met over the years.
I think you know where GSA's are right now. Not the best time to sell, so not sure what to do. Will email you.
my grandson beat hodgekins,so you can too..as far as the collection goes, you already got good advice in previous posts...I will be rooting for you
I am very sorry to hear of your news. All of us on this forum could have had the same bad news, and thank you for sharing your news.
Lot's of ideas of the best dispostion of your collection, if that is the most important thing that you can do immediately. Much of this advice is about selling your collection. But there are many factors for you to consider, including the relative value of yuur collection relative to your estate in whole. But the first thing that I would do is put together an inventory of you collection listing price paid, PCGS estimated price and greysheet price for each, and who you bought them from, and share this with whoever you designate to be trustee and executor of your estate, in case you are unable to complete sale in your lifetime.
But for now focus on beating your cancer with all of your energy focused in that direction. My prayers are with you and I am sure the prayers of members of our forum are as well.

I'm very sorry to hear about your illness. But, lymphomas are very much treatable, often respond very well to chemo/radiation, so try and stay positive and get a good oncologist.
As for the collection, much good advice already, BST, Great Collections, someone like Airplanenut who runs terrific consignment auctions. You have time to think things over.
Just for kicks, here is the only GSA I have left. Nothing special, just a GSA. Could not sell them all when I did the rest. Common as sin and fun to look at. Every one should own at least one just for the history and in the fact that they are cheap and plentiful.
bob

I work with 2 People who have Lymphoma both got the treatment and are currently both in remission. It is treatable do not give up!
I'll be thinking of you and sending you my best wishes! Take care!
Personally, I would say forget the coins and fight the cancer with everything you've got.
My prayers are with you for a complete recovery.

GC maybe the way to go . Also try some of the dealers listed in thread .. Best wishes
I have instructed that if money is needed after I kick, to not hesitate to liquidate my collection and to do it through an online auction house of their choosing.

Keep the coins. Hopefully you will beat the cancer and live many more years. When the day comes heirs may appreciate owning the coins that you were passionate about.
If selling, I would use Heritage.
Most depressing thread title I can recall.
Sorry, like other have said, coins would probably be way down the list of stuff to worry about after news like that.
Unless you need the funds for treatment I would put that on the back burner and put your health and treatment first. And get a second and third opinion. As I had a family member go through a similar diagnosis a couple years ago and the first doctor gave him very bad advice. I wish you the best.

I had that. Chemotherapy kicked it.
5 years now since.
But still make a trust.
