An 86-87 Fleer Jordan in a BCCG 10 Holder

I don't get this. Why would you not simply send this to PSA(or even BGS) and get a legit grade and holder? I assume they believe it wouldn't grade higher than an 8 with PSA and are trying to "scam" gullible people with the "BCCG 10" holder. Who would have sent that to BCCG to begin with? This same seller has TONS of this crap, and usually has numerous of the same card in BCCG, BGS and PSA holders.
I actively collect Kirby Puckett. I have collections of Michael Jordan, Emmitt Smith, Roberto Clemente, Dwight Gooden, Tom Seaver, Errict Rhett and Evan Longoria.

Might be a consignment, who knows. I've bought BCCG 10 cards before and been very happy with the result. If you can get good scans of the card you can usually get good cards at a discount because everyone assumes they're in those holders for nefarious reasons. I would only buy BCCG 10 though. It gets more murky when you get lower. But all of my BCCG 10's have crossed to at least 9's. Granted, I cracked out and was very picky with which cards I purchased.
I've had some success with bccg crack outs.
Beware of bogus slabs tho like this one:

Fake card and slab.
i haven't cracked a BCCG slab yet,is it just as easy to crack as a BGS slab?

Easier, IMHO.
For what it's worth, I remember reading that BCCG cards are 'self graded'; meaning a person ordered a kit and agreed to abide by and apply the grading standards therein. Sort of a franchising of the Beckett name before Beckett was fully in the grading game with two feet. I COULD BE WRONG ON THIS - but I fell like I read a good unbiased article about which companies are considered more and less legitimate and that was how it was described. PSA and SGC were 1-2, with rest basically lumped together and the least legitimate specifically identified; eBay offers a similar explanation you can find as well as far as which companies have the - let's say - tightest standards.

Crazy thing is, someone would probably pay $1500 to $2,000 for the Jordan as an 8 or 8.5, but nobody is probably going to touch it for anywhere near $3,500 in that holder.

Buy the card, not the holder
Pretty sure that's not accurate. Beckett does the grading for BCCG, same as they do with BGS and BVG, it just has cheaper prices and looser standards.

I don't think we're really having much disagreement; you are just saying it much better and more tactfully than me - you self grade your cards according to the submission kit and submit, a Beckett grader 'verifies' them - which is basically pulling out obviously incorrect ones - and slabs them and sends them back to you. Therefore, 10s will appear mint to the naked eye but a fair percentage will grade lower in reality; likely anywhere from 6-10. It would be hard for bulk submission to work any other way. It's also why the cost is considerably lower for both the service and the slabbed cards.

And I should add my one experience crossing a BCCG (1968 Mantle) card went great.
I didn't mean to imply there's any funny business. I have my stuff graded by SGC or PSA but I don't do much new stuff. I will buy Beckett products but haven't used the service.
My usual assumption with raw and non PSA/SGC cards is 'overstated by 1' and this way I'm either correct (65% of time) or extra happy (35%).
I also don't do too much high grade stuff.

Well a BCCG 10 isn't meant to be gem mint. It's mint or better. I think it's just about speed, not about self-grading. Beckett flies through the cards and tosses a conservative grade on them. Could they be higher? Maybe. But they're at least this according to Beckett standards.
That's why these threads are great - I know there's so much more to learn. I've always been pre-1970 (despite growing up in the 1980s) and only recently started having things graded (last 5 years). While I hope to never sell any, I figure slabs will protect the items and hopefully help whichever one of my descendants decides to sell them by having them identified and graded. Even a dope could look them up before selling them or throwing them away and realize their value...

Here's a good example. The corners are perfect under a loupe so I don't know what my scanner did to them. Got this for a song, almost certainly because of the BCCG holder. I'd say it's got a 15% chance to come back 9.5. I feel confident it will come back a 9.
I actually came across this topic recently on the Blowout forums and here was a Beckett statement about their BCCG grading service:
BCCG-graded cards (Beckett Collectors Club Grading) are completely separate and vastly different from the premium BGS- or BVG-graded cards. We can assure you that the same consummate care in handling is followed and consistent industry-leading quality of grading is applied to each and every card. As a result, BCCG-graded cards provide an eye-catching secondary market alternative to other graded card products, reaching a wider audience of fans and collectors. It features a modified numerical grading scale, with each level representing a range of standard conditions (Mint or better, Near mint or better, Excellent or better, etc.).
Furthermore, BCCG-graded cards are perfect for beginning or veteran collectors. Cards of a wide variety of star players are available in BCCG slabs. BCCG-graded cards are a perfect fit for the new collector who wants to be sure he's getting an excellent product from a trusted hobby source.
We also understand the importance of protecting your cards. Every BCCG-graded card is sealed and protected in a superior clear plastic holder whose design is based on the top-quality Beckett Grading Services (BGS) holder. Each holder features a white BCCG label with assigned grade, card serial number and precise card description obtained directly from Beckett's all-inclusive online database of sports cards. A fast and easy BCCG Card Lookup is available for card verification at the No. 1 online source for card collecting products, services and information BCCG has several different characteristics when compared to our BGS/BVG services. The BCCG service does not offer the four category (corners, centering, edges, and surface) break down on the backs of each of the cards. The BCCG service also does not have the half point grading scale which you see in the regular grading services - it is a more simplified grading scale that offers whole point grades only. The cases for BCCG cards are thinner than the BGS/BVG cases and there is no inner sleeve in which the card placed in before being inserted into the holder. Please be assured that our regular graders do grade all BCCG cards so you will be getting a professional Beckett Grading Services opinion from a qualified Beckett grader.
