New Coin Store in NYC!

Yesterday, I was walking on glamor 57th Street in NYC and saw this new coin store. The store is located between Park and Lexington - one of the highest rent district in the world. Right around the corner is Heritage (on Park & 57th) and a few blocks on 57th Street is Stacks. Pretty impressive! Any other new coin stores opening.

I'll bet they aren't going to specialize in Lincoln looks at Kennedy pennies. :p

Not a new dealer - they just moved recently. They were previously at 44th street between Fifth and Sixth for years. They seem to do a lot more baseball memorabilia than high value coins (although to be fair, I haven't been in their store in a while).

    That is awesome.

I heard it's set up like an Amazon store. You just pocket stuff you want and walk out the door. Your credit card takes care of payment.

Here's their website which includes their coin inventory. Looks like a lot of ATS with some PCGS and ANACS from what I've seen so far:

Is there a hot dog cart to provide an ample supply of mustard nearby outside?

High rent district for sure...57th street is now called Billionaire's row because the Chinese and Russians are paying up to 88 million for new apartments there.

It's always nice to see a brick and mortar store but it doesn't seem to have the same atmosphere as the ones in my youth where a few hundred BU Morgan dollars in the display cases were priced at 1.10 each.

Of course, buying anything of value over the counter is always made painful by the NYC sales tax of 8.875%

They were closed when I walked past the store but I will definitely be able to go in during business hours in the near future and check out the inventory. Glad to see coin store owners are willing to invest in a brick and mortar store now a days!
Not expecting to see many Morgans priced at $1.10

Looks like they are trying to go after that higher clientele around park ave- similar to heritage which is only 4 blocks away.
Seems that their early gold has problems coins priced where non problem coins should be and non problem coins at much higher levels.

may the fonz be with you...always...

Tony started in Queens feels like 40-50 years ago years ago they simply moved a few blocks. They have been around as long as I can remember

Jon is right. They have always been in midtown, since at least the 1980s. They have a fairly good reputation and have built a following. And, as you know, there is always something interesting walking through the door in NY, crossroads of the World. They have been competing with several other midtown dealers for years.

Consider that three doors from Stacks is a schlocky, kitschy "going out of business 50%-90% off" faux-antiques store that gets its clientele directly from cab-drivers whose passengers have already passed the "$183 fare from JFK-NYC" test.

Lest @MrEureka despair, moral epidemiologists have concluded that another coin dealership won't impede the pedestrian trade on that particular block to as great a degree as will the Trump Tower traffic problems.

So that’s where it ended up?

They usually have a nice selection of Italian coins. Brought a few from them at their Ebay store a while back.

I would assume the rent plus property tax per month is around 6 digits. But under the table cost before leasing would be close to a million plus.

Back in the day I went to their 44th Street location...found their selection of coins and cards to be over-priced and over graded (before TPG)...their staff and owners to be rude...and offers to buy both coins and cards to be lowball...
