I see the doubling.... just not the tripling.... not arguing the point... just cannot pick it up on that picture. Cheers, RickO
It's NOT S-269, the flag of the 1 (in the OP) is missing.
S-267?
S-268?
I would say that the digits are repunched and not doubled/tripled.

True. Repunched. I think it's 267 but I cannot pick up on both dash marks above and below the 5 serif on the coins in the coin facts images. The 65 example does show the lower repunch dash though. But I'm not an EAC guy by an means.
The coin is S-267. I suspect that what looks like tips from the "5" is PMD. OTHERWISE, you have a very early die state that I have not been able to find in the literature. Calling any EAC members!
The marks on both sides of the serif of the "5" are
not PMD as these marks are seen on other 1805
pieces, including the S-267 in the Dan Holmes collection.
Both the S-267 & S-268 used the same obv , but with
different rev's. In S-267 the repunched 5 was slopply
corrected leaving remnants of the strike. In S-268 the
obv was repolished erasing the error.
The OP should have someone examine the coin to insure
it is genuine. The surfaces are very pitted & look to have
unnatural areas. This issue is known to be forgeries. In
this condition it is hard to determine an accurate die state.

Thanks for the info. Any chance of seeing an image of the coin Mr. Holmes owns?

Wow!!!!!
My lowly F15 coin shows the RPD serifs, but I don't have a photo handy.
