Each coin has his history, even more when it's holed.
I hold this one for a while and than sold it to a collector of particular coins and tokens. One could imagine a mintmark on the engraved reverse of this 1873 Seated Liberty in very nice condition.
Where they the (British) at the time removing the clipped hammered coinage from circulation
did they not place a very small hole in the coins they considered still functional in commerce?

You probably heard something about the center punches applied in 1696. Conveniently, a book was recently published on the subject. Details here:

It has an edge inscription reading: EN TI DEPOSITAMOS LA SUERTE DE BOLIVIA

When I first saw it, I was so hoping for an O or S mint mark. I still bought it.
1871 engraving on an 1896 quarter?
