Tips when scanning cards?

Anyone got any tips when scanning your cards to make the image come out more crisp and show the corners well?

I sometimes feel when I scan my cards it will cut off the corners a bit sometimes.

Would putting a backing behind the card (something black or different color than the card) help with showing how good/or bad the corners are on a card?
