How to increase your eBay sales........the eBay way

mannie graymannie gray Posts: 7,259 ✭✭✭✭✭

I am so glad that eBay is always looking out for me.
I just received an email stating that I could increase my sales by 34% by offering 60-day free returns.
Quoting from the email : "Free returns refer to when seller pays return shipping no matter the reason for return, with no restocking fee."

Gosh, sign me up! :)

I did not get this e-mail, I must not be worthy. :D Sixty days is ridiculous, thirty days is more than enough for coins. I provide fourteen days for returns and will not go any further than that. If I get the email I will consider it for eternity. :)

Next time ebay will tell 90 days will increase more sales for you. LOL

Yes they are asking for abuse! I offer a 30 day return with a 10% restocking fee if the return is started after 7 days upon receipt. Haven't had to charge a restocking fee yet in around a year of implementing this policy! Knock on Wood!

If 60 days gets you 34 % more sales, try 180 days to increase sales 100 % !!!

The one I get often is: Increase your sales by lowering your prices compared to other listings of the same item. Yeah right, they compare my PCGS certified MS63 coin to the guy selling a cleaned circulated piece at 200x face.

But Ebay didn't give you an estimate of the percentage of returns

Ebay has been around for over 20 years and still has no grasp of how sellers run a business. They truly believe that the goods are free and every dollar we reap short of fees and shipping is profit.

I had a guy want to return an ebay item after 90 days, an MS64 gold coin he said that a dealer declared it "cleaned" and he was going to give it as a wedding gift no less! I did what I could for him; Rarcoa bought it and I didn't lose money.

So...this "dealer" was more knowledgeable than the TPG which graded the coin?
    Yeah, ok.
More likely a case of the dealer afraid he's losing business and badmouthing your material.
You did more than I would have done.

I havent gotten this email yet but I get the ones about how if I pay eBay for promoted listings my sales will increase. Imagine that.

Yeah, they actually called me about that one, and I was stupid enough and distracted enough to answer.

An omen of the future... My wager: Mandatory 60 day "free" returns for top sellers and at least 14 day for everyone else by September 2018.

    You are probably right.

I thought it was going to be the "found these coins that are obviously not from China from my late grandfather's estate sale which I need to sell for college and medical bills".

Keep in mind that you essentially offer 90 to 180 day returns automatically if you accept PayPal or any other credit card processing. They can challenge the charge for as long as 6 months on pretty much any number of spurious claims including the simple "item not as described".

Now, you MAY be able to get the buyer to pay for the return under a charge back. But it is also possible that the credit card company reverses the payment WITHOUT requiring the return of the item.

Except for bullion related,no return,14 days is plenty for numismatic coins/medals. As a buyer ,I know within minutes if I like the coin and keep or return same or next day.

That is another possible lawsuit in the works against ebay. I am already paying ebay to list my items. Why should I have to pay more? I don't know if you ever check your listings, but if you do you will find they are not always visible. I check a certain category every day under newly listed with a different account and see my listings visible sometimes and sometimes not.

Wow... 60 days.... I am not a seller, but that seems unreasonable. Cheers, RickO

Yeah, after 16 years they lifted my selling limits. They tell me I can list 50,000 items and 10 million dollars worth , per month. And I can't even get ten times FV on .900 bulk silver coinage. Makes me feel like I got a date with Anthony Wiener & Harvey Weinstein at the same time.

I recently went a month with no offers on any of my items. Not even the ridiculously low offers. I can't imagine the low offer trolls left me alone that long. I assumed the people paying were getting the traffic

I'll bet you they are not in business by 2037...
