HK-398. I've always loved these. This is the nicest one I have seen. Submitting it to our hosts tomorrow. Nice, clean, sharp, no issues. Can't wait to see what it grades. Opinions ALWAYS welcome.

Cheers

Bob

That's a great looking medal! Would love to own one. I wonder how many are out there with the original certificate signed by Goethals? (did he actually sign 50,000 of them??!!)

While some sources show the motto as Oceani Inter Se Columbid Coniunguntur, it is actually Oceani inter se a Columbia coniunguntur

I believe that Daniel Carr used that obverse on a SCD issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Panama Canal being opened. (I have one somewhere).

Also, the man who "built" the canal (he had some help) and whose facsimile signature is on the reverse, was named Goethals. He had a son who became a doctor in Boston at the Massachusetts General Hospital and he led a team of Army doctors - my grandfather included - to North Africa and Italy during WWII.

I misread it. Thought it said, "Prosperity to Alienation."

    whoops.

@MrHalfDime : I really do appreciate your concern. :) But, it wasn't a memory lapse. Just put it away some time ago along with other things. Day-to-day stuff gets in the way and you sometimes lose track. With regard to the "mystery box." I made that box up for a giveaway. Before I could do anything with it I had a hip replaced. With recovery, PT, etc., again, life got in the way and my priorities changed. I'm only 62, and although I fewer days ahead of me than I do behind me, I'm still on top of my game! Sailing every weekend and extended cruise for three weeks in the summer, I keep sharp. The only ting I would give up coins for is pictured below.

I'm not ready to go just yet! ;)

    Cheers

Great medal ... but, based on your photos, if it were mine I'd apply a bit of Blue Ribbon to treat those small obverse "green" areas (below PROSPERITY and above NATIONS) before submitting it. Good luck with it!

Wasn't aware I could get so called dollars graded here. Here is a reference for those unaware of them, who might care to learn or explore. Thanks.

Nice medal! And nice boat too...someday I am going to get my wife out on a sailboat, I think she would like it. I certainly miss the sailing days of my youth!

I understand what you're saying, but this medal is unmolested and I don't want to take any chances messing with it. This is the first one I have seen with original color.

I dropped it off with Chris at Northeast Numismatics. They seem to think it'll 4 or 5.

    Cheers

It is a very nice looking one. Also probably the nicest I’ve seen too.
Are you going to get a true View? That would be very cool
