1835 Bust Quarter G-T-C : NGC -> PCGS ~ GRADE POSTED

This is an 1835 Browning-7 reduced size quarter that is another one of my recent crosses from NGC to PCGS. While it is attractively toned, it didn't cross at grade the first time around. It did cross on a subsequent submission. We know you can't truly grade from pictures, but for fun can you guess the NGC and PCGS grades on this one?

    58...is that a die clash on the reverse? Cheers, RickO

    Looks like a textbook 58 to me too.

    "“Those who sacrifice liberty for security/safety deserve neither.“(Benjamin Franklin)

    "I only golf on days that end in 'Y'" (DE59)

    58 would have crossed the first time, therefore must be 62

  • agree with most N62, P58 if 1835, no grade if you insisted on 1837 label

    Oh man Dynamic, I can't believe I did that.... twice ! Thank you, fixed now.

    Ricko - I believe that is a clash mark you see on the reverse.

    I'll post the grades later tonight.

    The coin is a 58 by popular consensus no matter what the TPGs call it.

    Dipped a long time ago and retoned? Nice coin, I'm with the 58 crowd.

    Thank you for all the guesses and comments. Who says you can't grade from photo's? Everyone did great!

    I originally purchased this piece raw from the Russell Logan sale where it was described as AU58. It always looked a bit better to me with the attractive toning and graded NGC MS62 when I first had it graded many years ago. It falls into that NGC MS62 / PCGS AU58 category. I figured maybe it would 58+ after it didn't cross at grade on the first attempt, but it didn't.

    For the reduced size bust quarter series, 1835 is the year with the most varieties at 8. The B-7 is very easy to spot as it is the only 1835 variety with no period after the C in 25 C. The reverse also has a die engraver's scratch below the E in UNITED, which is visible on the example above but might be a little difficult to see in the picture.

    In a later die state, on the reverse, the top of the N in UNITED becomes filled. See my lower grade example below (VF35) for this state. In the final die state, the M in AMERICA is also supposed to come filled.
