Is this worth sending to pcgs? 1972 curved clipped planchet
I'm still extremely new to coin collecting and found this in a coffee can while putting a Whitman book together.

I ask myself 'will having this in a slab increase it's value by at least' (cost of submission)
since error fees are high, the answer is no

There is a good chance no one ever noticed that clip so thats why I would keep it , if you release it to the wild it may never get noticed again either , but it will look just as good in a 2x2 and won't cost you anything. You don't need a tpg to tell you its a clip , don't let them get used to people handing them free money , make them earn it by telling you something you didn't already know.
I always thought it was silly to have to pay them to attribute an error that you are literally pointing out to them.

Yes, it doesn't pay to have it certified by
any of the 3-4 grading services..............
any fees would be wasted, and as mentioned
above, save the fees for another coin or

If you want it in a slab-like holder, buy one of the "Coin World Premier" holders (you actually have to buy a pack of 3) from Amos Hobby. They're about $1 a piece. If you go to larger shows where there are supply sellers present, you could wait and buy one there. Meanwhile, put it in a 2x2.

Great find "in the wild," and definitely worth keeping and preserving, but as others have said it is not worth slabbing. Along with 1944, 1972 is the most common date for small curved clips like the one you found.

Thanks everyone, I wasn't sure if it was something that needed to be professionally looked over. I've never looked into pcgs so I didn't realize how much it cost to have it "official". I guess being new to this I'm trying to do a lot of research rather than assuming I have come across "the find of the year".
Nice find.
