Any stapler recommendations for using on cardboard flips?

Having a hard time with the one I have so thinking there must be a brand stapler or staples that works with ease on flips?

I've been using a MAX HD50F for years - works great for me. Bought it from t the supplies table at a show.

This is the standard style stapler you press down on - not the style that you grip like a pliers.

An old Swingline - from a garage sale - will likely give excellent service for many years. All metal with solid design and construction. Many newer staplers do not give uniform results or clog a lot. Just my experience.

    None!

I have seen too many great coins ruined by staple scratches. From direct scratching of the coin, or damage caused by the next stapled 2x2 in the box. I like the PCGS style SafeFlips, and you can get then in 2x2 size if you like the smaller format.

Not sure how you would handle raw coins displayed at shows to prevent them from slipping out without a staple.

I use a Swingline... though I do not put many coins in 2x2's anymore...... Raw coins now mostly go in flips. Cheers, RickO

Any metal frame Swingline , or a made in Japan...so you want something at least 25 years old.

I forgot to mention a very important detail. I use flat staples, not the normal "rounded" staples. The flips lie flatter so you get more in a box. Some think it minimizes the risk of staple scratches, but I am not convinced of that. Only careful handling prevents staple scratches. I simply cut the clear plastic to remove the coin - I never try to remove staples.

I agree. One thing I do also is clinch the staples completely flat with a lineman's pliers as soon as they are in, before any other handling of the flips, to prevent scratching and they lie flat for any notations that need to be made also.

I use a ancient ACE 702 Clipper with undulated staples. Like this.....

Then I flatten the staples with a pair of pliers. There is probably a more efficient way if doing hundreds a day but my trusty ACE does just fine for the few I do. Like cameonut, I never remove staples to get the coin out, just cut the film with the tip of an Exacto knife.

You can seal saflips closed with a cheapo impulse sealer (<$20, like this one or similar. There are tons on the bay)

    Collector, occasional seller

  • I have been using tape, but I guess over time, that can loose stickiness. If you don't use a stapler or the impulse sealer, what is another thing that could be used to seal them?

    Standard desk model and pliers.
Also have a heat sealer for safeflips.

Max mini stapler with 10-5M mini staples. When one has to mount up to 500 coins a day, this eliminates the inflamed wrist joints from the repetitive motion. The mini Max clinches staples flat, so no blunt nose pliers needed.

I used to use a type that makes the staple flat then I gave that up for the adhesive type. Way way better.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

If you are stapling, no substitute for the MAX cinch series. They are quite flat and eliminate the need for pliers.

That said, I wouldn't put anything expensive in stapled 2x2 UNLESS they are cinched and in album pages.

Bought mine from a coin shop. It's a hand held "RAPID Classic 1" made in Sweden. Then I do the flatten thing last.

    This x 2
And vise grips will flatten both ends of the staples. Set them to not close completely.
