1844 Large Cent Opinion

Best picture seller can get me and I had to crop and rotate them to get this so best I am going to get. I don't see the "1" in bust for N-8 but still impressive coin. Thoughts?

    I don't like the "halos" around the stars which may be indicative of cleaning. I would pass, unless you are going to put it in an album.

    I only see N-1 through N-7 on CoinFacts;

    The N-8 is proof only.

    I would suggest having someone with a good
    knowledge of this coin and that it is a proof
    N-8, of which there are very few. Some parts
    of the piece you showed look a little suspicious,
    but maybe it's just my old eyes.

    Heritage Auctions has a good image of a sale of
    an N-8 to compare.
    " Only 12 to 15 examples of this proof-only variety are known in all grades. The entire obverse and the upper half of the reverse "

    Ah, that would explain it...I rarely look at proof strikes.

    Nice strike, but doesn't look like a proof due to weakness in strike -- which for a business struck coin is good but for a proof not so good -- but I did not attribute the coin.

    The think that really bothers me about the coin is the color/surfaces. As others have noted, it appears as if the coins' surfaces have been messed with.

    Very blurry picture of the obverse.... That being said, the surfaces of the coin are highly questionable...some sort of cleaning or treatment has occurred. Cheers, RickO

    I wouldn't be interested in that coin.

    A definite PASS. I suspect that it has been cleaned and recolored.
