The mint really worked the die over that was used to strike this 1941 Quarter

I picked this up over the weekend... the '41' in the date on this Washie has had extensive work done on it. All of it is raised, and there is a lot of die polish in the area. It isn't obvious in the image, but there's a lot of work on the right side of the '1' as well. Not sure if they were trying to touch up the '41' (kind of an extreme version of what they were doing to Jefferson nickel serifs around the same time) or something else, but it looks cool and I thought I'd share. If anyone has any additional info or ideas it will be much appreciated!

Neat. Analogous to touch-up work done on artist monogram on some half dollars.
That's cool looking.
Agree. Also Jefferson's pony tail on proofs of the era.
Wow C. That's neat. Good eye. Was it an in hand buy or internet?
Got it at the coin shop.
Interesting....looks like someone was training on die work....Cheers, RickO
I like it!

I have one that came back from our Host in one of those Minor Labels with RPD. Yours does look more like Re-engraving if the lines are raised.....New Variety?
I have seen several different 1941 RPD but none like yours.....Nice Pickup
I used to be famous now I just collect coins.

Would this be a Wiles coin or send it to someone else?
Nice Find.
Congratulations!
I would start with Him, I have looked thru my books and his site and kind of amazed that I cannot find any RPD listed. I know I have seen different ones...... But none had raised lines. Let us know if you send it as I would be curious as to what he thinks..............
Enjoy Tom

I sent the image to Dr. Wiles and am awaiting his reply... if that doesn't go anywhere I'll reach out to Bill Fivaz maybe.
From Dr. Wiles:

I consider this to be engraving doubling on the master hub. You probably have an EDS of an early hub state.
Thanks,
