I'm glad to see this OP's post. It could be very embarrassing if @cameonut2011 could see all the snide, offensive, behind-the-back, comments I make about him in PM's on a daily basis!
Private messages are not shown publicly. However, we have had multiple threads on the boards in the last few months (including one that I started) to warn folks that they might mistakenly post something to a person's "wall" instead of sending a PM. These messages that you can read were posted on members' walls instead of being sent by PM. The threads I mentioned have also specifically shown folks how to avoid mis-posting.
THOSE ARE NOT PRIVATE MESSAGES.
Those are the posts that people mistakenly add to a user's "wall" instead of clicking the little message icon in the upper right. I really don't understand how people have not figured out how to do a proper PM yet.

And yes they are PMs. Do you actually think CRO wanted his offer to buy a coin for a price made public? If he did, wouldn't it made more sense to post his offer in BST instead?

I just sent you a PM, see if it shows on activity.
Edit: I see you have changed the OP. Carry on
I do agree that it isn't the best design to have the most prominent thing on someone's profile page be a giant text box that could easily be mistaken for an area to send a PM. Heck even CRO mistook it for such

Question. Is it against the rules to sell coins to each other in a PM?
I hope not. I've done deals by PM.
No nor is it against the rules to post PMs publicly (I think).

In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
the pms are available to cu members to view, hence cu members=public.
I can't even get my psychiatrist to talk to me about coins.

Reread what Tom wrote. You are confusing the "activity" wall with PM's. The former is public; the latter is private.
Lance.
But the whole point of this discussion is NOT my confusion. It is that messages intended to be private are all available for all (cu members) to read.
Geez louise get over w/the wall business.
And by the way you're all welcome.

Yes, we agree. Some folks use the public "activity" wall instead of sending private messages and don't realize it.
It is incorrect to say "pms are available to cu members to view, hence cu members=public". PM's are always private.
This topic was addressed very clearly by TomB shortly after the new forum software went live and it has since come up numerous times.
Maybe we needed to hear about it yet again.
Lance.

PM's are private... wall postings public.... that is how the system works. Cheers, RickO
Why don't you or everyone who seems to know it all answer my question on CRO's intent?
Just select certain passages of my post & to show my ignorance isn't going to get me to back off.
my intent was to point out what I perceived are PMs are available on the wall & thus available for cu members to read - better?
x'cellent!!
Build the wall.

Mr. Hall, tear down that wall?
My initials are PM. When people say "PM" me, I think they're talking about me behind my back.

Thanks for the CRO comment.
