I was not aware that Eric Newman had sold parts of his collection prior to the the auctions that Heritage has held over the past couple of years. As to what he's doing now, proceeds from the auctions are used to fund his numismatic foundation which has already sponsored a wonderful on-line reference source for major, historic numismatic auctions.

Here is a 1798 quarter eagle in NGC AU58+ *. If you check out the auction images, it was considered BU pre third party grading. The coin is now in a PCGS holder as AU58+. I don't think it will ever be slabbed as an MS65 but maybe one day as a MS62?

It's a glorious coin and one of my favorites.

There are part of the planned series of auctions. Nothing unusual about that.
