Yep, that's the chop (also called damage by many).
IMO, you are being too critical about the cleaning as most of the hairlines in the image are random. My first look was AU-50 but the reverse is closer to UNC than XF. Due to all the luster, I'll bet AU-53 Chopped at our hoast as the coin has the details of @logger7 's AU-55 grade but it is not "Choice."
Depends how bad the cleaning is, which you can't tell from the picture. But my guess is that it would probably grade AU Details, Cleaned, Chop Mark; or if the cleaning is not that bad, AU-53 Chop Mark.
If you are thinking about buying it for a type set or as an example of a chop marked Trade Dollar, I would wait. There are much more attractive examples out there probably for the same cost.
I don't think the damage on the center of the reverse coincides with the chop mark located in the wheat stalks on the obverse. Therefore I don't think it will straight grade.
The only chop mark I see is on the reverse... that indentation is roughly square, so I imagine it is a poorly done chop....AU50.....maybe even XF 45.... Cheers, RickO

Well it's AU. obv may have had some light cleaning in the past but tough to tell from photos.

I'm old and blind....where is the chopmark?

Hairlines aren't that bad; I will say an optimistic 55 or so.

It is an ugly au53 so net graded to 50
11.5$ Southern Dollars, The little “Big Easy” set
How about an unattractive (not ugly!) AU-55 net down to a 53? LOL>
I would call it AU and probably about 53
AU 50
I agree...53 netted to 50.

Thanks for everyone's opinions, they are much appreciated. FWIW, I had it at AU53/50.
