It's not silver at all. It is a typical 1985 JFK half that is beat up.

I would agree but this has been in a private collection for over 30 years never handled. typically you would see ridges or evidence of them but this coins shows none. could it be a possible planchet mistake. to wear the ridges off so much so that even evidence of ridges no longer exist one would think you would see wear in other places on the coin.

corrected my years. been in a collection for over 30 years.

Then why ask for opinions if you aren't ready to accept them? It's not anything special, a normal Kennedy half that is best off spent.

    I'll come up with something.

This coin is from 1985. How could it be in a collection for over 35 years? Its only worth 50 cents and isn't silver

If you think this coin has never been handled, you don't know what handling marks look like. Sorry, but no.

    Kind regards,

Edge looks like copper. Likely a normal clad half. Can weigh the coin and compare with a 64 Kennedy . Still unsure, take it to your nearest coin dealer.

This reminds me of a quote a number of years ago by our expert Wondercoin, something like "I've been searching for coins like high grade 92-p quarters for over 30 years".

There is a big difference with what Wondercoin said. Mitch said "like." Any post-1965 quarter is "like" a 92-P to me. I think his statement was that he has been searching for certain high-grade clad coins for over 30 years and just included the 92-P in that list even though it is obviously less than 30 years old. The poster here has alleged that this specific coin, not a generic clad Kennedy, has been in a collection for 35 years which is obviously false. The original poster is clearly trolling.

Cameonut2011... that was the intention. I started hunting for clad quarters seriously beginning in 1983. That was about 34 years ago now and probably around 30 years ago at the time of my 1992 quarter comment. Wondercoin.

Even with these humorous postings, I will still continue to look at the BST. Like in anything else, you've got to separate the wheat and the chaff.

  • you learn by asking questions. research tells me it is probably not silver. and as for the rounded edges. the coins does have them now I'm no forensic expert but I do know that the edges are round and know evidence of ridges exist. the coin has been in a private collection for many years. maybe not the 35 as stated in haste but 30+ for sure. some of you may not agree that's ok with me. its in my collection and if it is worth 10 cents I'm keeping it because I collect. I just aksed for opinions nothing more. negativity shows your ignorance

This wouldn't be silver. I've seen literally thousands of coins that look exactly like this when I coin roll hunted halves really hard. We called them 'casino halves'.
