Late, but just heard that Gene Henry died.

Guess I've been retired too long (impossible, heh) but I just found out yesterday upon emailing his old cohort from their shop.

At least I see it was after a TENNIS MATCH !!!

Way ta go, Gene. :'(

Yep - been a while. Gene was a good guy to know and chat with. He went through his counterfeit collection with me one day - that was an education. Wouldn't sell any - said they were all going to the ANA when he passed.

It's taken quite some time for the executors to go through his holdings - they are still being dispersed. I was able to by some of his PCGS/NGC samples recently.

His last shop in Issaquah has closed and been taken over by Bellevue Rare Coins. I suspect it was his activity that kept the shop afloat. There wasn't much else happening in the front end.

"My friends who see my collection sometimes ask what something costs. I tell them and they are in awe at my stupidity." (Baccaruda, 12/03).I find it hard to believe that he (Trump) rushed to some hotel to meet girls of loose morals, although ours are undoubtedly the best in the world. (Putin 1/17) Gone but not forgotten. IGWT, Speedy, Bear, BigE, HokieFore, John Burns, Russ, TahoeDale, Dahlonega, Astrorat, Stewart Blay, Oldhoopster, Broadstruck, Ricko, Big Moose, Cardinal.

From an email I got from one who knew him well.

    "Hardly a day goes
by that I don’t think about him, though, as he was
larger than life to a great many of us....Certainly
one of the most knowledgeable and competitive
coin guys I ever dealt with....and,yet, so generous when
he wanted to be....he was a bit of an enigma in that
sense, that is, he’d rip your throat out in dealing on a
group of stuff in the afternoon, then insist you let him
take you to dinner at some classy place where he’d
    spend $600-$1000. for 3 or 4 people.....Neat guy
who constantly drove me crazy with all his idiosyncrancies,
but one had to respect his immense knowledge and
all that he gave of himself to help others...."

    Nice tribute, I think.

Condolences to his family and friends ... I did know who he was while I lived in WA state... was not closely associated though. Cheers, RickO

I didn't know, but it sounds like he was a really neat guy.

Never did any business with him but he often came into my local shop and always enjoyed his company.
