when I was a kid..1950s....folks would paint a quarter with red nail polish....then try to track it around town...didnt take a lot to entertain us back then
Yes, I believe you are right.
The first time I saw the coin on a different monitor and it looked much darker, like corrosion.
Now on this screen, I see the red.
Looks as if it has been painted.... although, I have dug coins in soil that has been covered by pine needles for many years that also had a red color similar to that coin. Cheers, RickO

It is corroded; damaged, most likely spent some time in wet soil.
