Morgan Dollar Gunk removal

I have no idea what is on these dollars, but what would you recommend I try besides a chisel? :)

    Goo Gone soak first. Then acetone soak. NO RUBBING! Then post new photo. Do not think some of the black will come off. We'll see.

    Someone has gouged the reverse. Best to not dip it - just remove the debris (see above) and then trade the coin for something better as it is a reverse of '79 and you don't wish to make it ugly with a dip.

    I would use acetone first....if anything is left, try Koinsolv or MS70....no rubbing.. stubborn residue can be helped with a rose thorn. Let us know how it works out... Cheers, RickO

    Smelter ready. With a extensive polishing, a good belt-buckle.

    I think a damaged 1878 rev of '79 is worth more than melt to many less affluent collectors. :smile:
