While watching the 1945 MGM film adaptation of Oscar Wilde's "The Picture of Dorian Gray" on TCM tonight I saw Dorian looking over a tray of coins and medals and comparing them to pictures in a book on his desk. Wonder what they were? Here are a couple of links to screen shots from the movie.

I remember seeing that years ago and thinking the same thing.
Kinda cool to be working on your collection by the light of a lantern......
Now that is an old movie....well, old is a harsh term.... considering my age.... Cheers, RickO
You are correct, an old movie but not as old as the two of us. The 44 in my handle stands for 1944, the year of my birth.

Interesting, since I didn't sign up for this forum until earlier this year I never saw that thread from 2014. I guess that is what the search is for.

Does the "Yellow Brick Road" from The Wizard of Oz" impliedly made from gold bars count?
Somewhere In Time, Christopher Reeves.
He had an old suit 15 years old fashioned, he made sure he bought coins from the period. He went back in time, met the woman he loved, She made fun of his old fashioned 1890s suit , Elise his wife to be thought he should get a modern one 1905..............Richard begins to show her how practical the suit is because of its many pockets. He is alarmed when he reaches into one and finds a Lincoln penny with a mint date of 1979. Seeing an item from his real present wrenches him out of his hypnotically induced time trip, and Richard feels himself rushing forward in time. YOU MUST WATCH THIS MOVIE. RENT IT, NETFLIX IT, GET A DATE, SHE'LL LOVE IT.
Oh Dear God, I live a life of quiet desperation.................
There is one really good Law and Order episode circa 1996 involving a murder over coins that never really existed the dealer put them in an auction catalog to attract attention to it. The coins were the property of a Holocaust survivor. Watch it's worth the viewing ...........S7 E4 back to my life as above.
The 1996 "Law & Order" coin episode is titled "Survivor" and Karen Allen of the "Indiana Jones" films is in it.
It is one of my favorites, too.
