Got this old man in change last night in NYC, in the Bronx no less. Maybe he had a vacation here and there, but
he was still working hard at 104 years old. Now he's going to be relaxing for a while at my place.

The hairlines are on the flip I put it in.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

I once got a holed, dateless 1913 type 1 Buffalo in change. I still have it somewhere, on a keyring if I remember correctly.

Pretty sure I've never gotten a 100 year old coin in change. 1920's era Lincolns is about the best I can do.

I got an 1877 IHC from a bank roll as a teenager, but I don't think it was quite 100 yrs old at that time. Close! ...... And a quick note to ms70: cut ol' Abe there some slack.... he's just 104 years old!! :o;)

If he's only 104, shouldn't he be working harder?

Found a VG 1876 Seated dime under an oven in a rundown $100/month apt, when I was in college, in about 1980. Decided to clean under the stove for some odd reason, and there she was. Still have her too!

Oldest coin that I can ever recall recieving in change was a 1919 Lincoln cent minted in Philadelphia - and that happened more than once. Huge huge mintage of that date.

Americans generally do not realize the relative stability of our monetary arrangements compared to other nations. I do not think that there is practically any other nation where a coin dated before 1950 would still be readily spendable.

Somewhere around here I have a 1911-P Lincoln Cent that I found on the ground at the local Aldi's.

I paid $2.00 for a 1913-S Lincoln in Fair Condition, in about 1963. Yours has nice, even wear. Mine was pitted. :)

A 13-S is a CRAZY COOL circ. find.
Well done, you will have a hard time surpassing that one!
The past couple of months I have found several "teens" Lincolns, all Philly, oldest was a 1910, AG/G. I am pretty sure that's the oldest coin I have ever found in change, and my looking goes back a LONG time.
Nothing as cool as a 1913-S.
That deserves a huge YOU SUCK from us roll searching weenies. :)

Got this in change about 10 years ago at a convenience store. Some kid raided daddy's coins.

And about 15 years or so ago I got this darksider instead of a dime.

    Amazing circ. finds. :):)

    Canada.... Switzerland....

A few others got erased with the euro.

Very little left in Canada, I think - you might be able to spend a five cent coin with George VI on it, but the odd shape would make it obvious.

I've found more than a few 100+ year old coins in roll searches, coin machine rejects or circulation.

My records - 1858 FE cents in 2014 in cent rolls
1865 IHC in a coin machine reject slot about a year ago
77 Liberty nickels dated from 1890-1912-D in nickel rolls about a year ago
1898 and 1898 Barber dimes in a coin machine reject slot about 2.5 years ago.

Same here, oldest legitimate "received in change" find was a 1910 cent at a Denny's -- but it wasn't 100 years old then, this was in the mid 1990's--back when I'd still eat at a Denny's!

All 3 of the cents back were wheat (paid at the register) so asked to change a quarter for 25 pennies and most were common early Lincolns, too. Still have them.

I didn't see the 1913 until I got back home that morning. If I saw it when I received it I would've asked for more change. There might have been more prizes. :(
