Selling Coins Online Beginners Advice?

I have several great pennies that I'd like to sell. I look for mint errors in mainly pennies. Im new and buy bank rolls and have found ones that are great errors. I love pennies, they have personality hehe and can have numerous errors or possibility at least that I didn't find in nickels or quarter. Cab anyone give me advice on the best way to sell, grade accurately, price fairly, not get scammed, what type of pennies are most popular or pennies that are not profitable ? I bought a domain a while back and curious of selling on my own site is a good idea as a beginner or not? Thanks guys

    EBay, .99 auctions.

It would take years (and some very nice/unique material) to establish your own website, if ever.

I have done exactly what you are doing.

The most important thing in selling coins online is great photography. You must have or develop this skill. It is a must.

Run 99 cent auctions on ebay with detailed photos.

It is best to buy whole bricks (50) unopened rolls of brand new cents or of the same date. If you find an repeatable error then you will have many, many examples all of the same error. All you need is one set of "stock" photos of the error and then you can resist over and over. DO NOT and I repeat do not list more than one of these (the same error) per week.

Most importantly put all profits in super eye appealing (error) coins for your collection or inventory. Before you know it, you will be a coin dealer.

Take a look at similar items on Ebay. Unless you have something other than a minor error die crack filled die etc you market will be very limited to get a buyer but being Ebay anything is possiable.

Feelicia how did Heritage explain that 64 cent would like to know how to tell the diagnostics as well as their dealing with you.

  • I asked the guy who told me it was not it, how to know and if he could give me links or sites that showed how to tell a sms cause I think the pics posted that claimed it was from Heritage Auctions isn't. He never responded back lol. Yeah so I know there's like 4 or 5 denominations of 1964 SMS so each denomination has separate markings which i read most markings or "damage" was intentional and that the drag marks are vertical and looked as if they were test coins. I do have questions on my 1964 though cause there's a huge long crack from Lincolns head that extends to front of his head and doubling on some words. So I'm not done with this coin quite yet hehe. I have thousands of pennies and I have good error ones so I want to start selling. I am learning how to identify authentic valuable pottery and porcelain, china, figurines from around the world by reading makers marks and reading blind inscriptions so it's a lot to learn on top of pennies so I haven't been quick to pick up identifying coin errors. I also sell on 2 sites now one on PoshMark which I do well on selling clothes and accessories and then on Ebay reselling vintage and antique items. I just started getting my first couple purchases on EBay after a month so I hope with good reviews and customer service i can get established. I own 5 domains, (really a waste of $60 lol) but i I bought penniesandcents.com domain name a few weeks ago looking to sell it cause u can make good money if u get popular domain names that buyers want but I was thinking about using that to start back at E Commerce store just this time selling my pennies. I use to sell on my own wearable art pieces under The Crafting Hour Co.com but it got so incredibly pricey to sustain it and i got accepted onto a curated site Cargoh and so i shut it down. I wanted to try selling coins this time, I will get to moving up to other coins but I love pennies. I also am not a guy so collecting to have is meaningless lol. I want a great collection but guys hold it to show their guy friends and see who has best collection to brag or whatever reason and I just don't have that in me hehe . It's fun though searching for them and more addicting than I ever thought it would be. Thanks for advice oh and Heritage is a great site to get free appraisals.

Fee- just be aware, you're hangin' with the Big Boys (and -Girls) over here.

I mean this in both the best AND worst ways.

On the plus side, you've got the very top tier of the US numismatic community here, with an incredible knowledge base.

On the minus side, these forums can be a tad elitist or snobbish at times, or just difficult for a novice to follow.

But 99% of the folks here are good, and helpful, and you'll learn a lot here. I certainly have, over the past 16 years, and have gotten more respect than I deserved sometimes.

I've been a collector for 41 years, but most of what I know about numismatics, I picked up right here on these forums.

Good luck to you. You're going to need to learn quite a bit and do several deals before you can be respected as a seller here, but I'm not suggesting you don't have that in you. Just stay honest, and friendly, and willing to learn, and people will usually be tolerant of mistakes as long as you make good and communicate well.

Enjoy the forums. Stick around here long enough, and you will learn a LOT.

    Regards,

    ~RWS/"LM"
