Positivity!

Anywhere you go in the hobby, whether it be the forums or a physical event, you will most likely hear something rather negative. For example: the hobby is dying, TPGs are kinda screwing up stuff, etc. Therefore, I suggest this thread. Simply comment one positive thing about the hobby, and maybe we can all enjoy the feeling of being optimistic. My contribution:
Information is available like never before! Numismatists, whether beginners or advanced practioners, can do original research that leads to incredible new discoveries.

I look forward to coming on here every day to see everyone's truly remarkable coins.
Not to mention I'm eagerly awaiting for my 5 enhanced mint sets with the first S mint BS dime since 1955.
Later, Paul.

IIRC, you are young.
Real long-term success lies in being able to handle (suffer) 'the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune', all the while truly appreciating life's little victories.
Hamlet was probably a YN. Probably knew Mrs. Schook.
Realism!
More than ever before it's possible to build truly fantastic sets due to the ease of finding tough coins via auction listings posted to the internet.
It's a near Golden Age for numismatic publications, so long as you take some of them with a grain of salt. And nowadays, I need eyeglasses - how come these books weren't around 30 years ago?
Realism!
Not so for the shrinking Coin World and Numismatic News publications.
If I want to hold em, I go to my local coin shop. If I want to fold em, I shop online, view, and then discard as many as I want.

Coin World's present editorial function and the one week "slick" magazine and three weeks "internet" magazine format works good for me.
While I still love Numismatic News and World Coin News, they are probably "loss leaders" for the KP line of coin catalogs.
We discussed the decline in classified advertising in these posts not too long ago.

...clean looking common date 64 in OGH...$85 off eBay...they're still out there boys...Enjoy the Hunt!
COINS ARE GREAT!!!
HAPPY COLLECTING
In this weeks web listing...DWN sold all the half eagles and all but one of his quarter eagles within 24 hours...
I'm reminded of the song "Accentuate the Positive", especially the version from "The Singing Detective"!

(Yes, I prefer Realism).
I think of "tastes great" versus "less filling".

I like to look at coins

The Hunt is Still Very Fun.

I am a realist too. However, a small dose of optimism never hurts.

See a biographical sketch on Voltaire, read his novel 'Candide', and report back when you are past age fifty-five.
Sadly, I will not be here to take your report.
You are too young to understand what "realist" means. Outwards positivity, as a mask, may be helpful. Unless you are internally very damn realistic, your success will be limited.
Realism!
One positive thing is the number of very bright YNs like Kellen.
Very frankly, how can you be certain of that?
Realism!
Calling Dr. PANGLOSS. Come in Dr. PANGLOSS....I Iike your style, Bill Dugan. I'm probably the only one. Oh well.
I think @pruebas said it well. The market window is FAR FAR larger than it was when I was a child. You had a local shop, or you had a magazine, or you had a show. Those were the easiest ways to buy coins. Now it's far far easier to purchase.
Insert witicism here. [ xxx ]
Dr. Pangloss collected coins avidly until he ran out of $$$.
When he wanted to sell, it was NOT "the best of all possible worlds".

Collecting coins is a hobby with many facets. It covers history, metallurgy, art, manufacturing processes, errors, varieties and specimen status. The hobby can be enjoyed by a vast cross section of people and all economic levels. Cheers, RickO
There is nothing that beats finding a silver dime and a corroded wheat cent in the Coinstar machine!
(Have I really sunk that low?)
Good thread.

I have been finding key dates for my Peace Dollar set well under greysheet.
Positivity tends to bring positivity.
Positive people tend to draw positive people to them.
Negative/downer folks tend to hang together.
It's quite possible however to be a realist with a bend toward positivity.

I collect.
I'm alive. I have money, albeit limited, to indulge in this hobby.
Don't quote me on that.
