I prefer Whites, check them out.
I've used them since 1990

@adambarton.... Welcome aboard..... If you are beach hunting, you will need an MD that can handle saltwater.... otherwise the noise will drive you crazy.... I agree with Treashunt... White's is - IMO - a great product in technology, quality and reliability. Also, their customer service is incredible. If you are not comfortable selecting a model, simply call them and explain what you will be using it for. Do not be afraid to spend a bit... it will be well worth it. The Surfmaster PI Dual Field is an excellent unit... I have one. Cheers, RickO
My old Whites has a switch to activate for salty areas like beaches and deserts. My new Lobo does not (but I'm not in an area that has salty soil)

If you want to hunt the wet sand at a salt water beach, you either need simultaneous multi frequency such as a Minelab CTX3030, Etrac, Explorer, or Fisher CZ, or, you need a pulse induction machine.
Absolutely buy one with a iron discriminator and signal depth. How much do you want to spend?
