1964 D Kennedy Half DDO, T1 Reverse with special finish
I bought a coin collection from a man who inherited seven separate collections from deceased family members. Amongst other things, the collection had a large group of Kennedy half dollars. I recieved two 1964 D Kennedy Half dollars that were not with the group, but in separate baggies, and each came with a penny, nickel, dime and quarter that were also 64 D.
One of the kennedies has a T1 reverse and the other has a T2 reverse. They don't have a proof-like finish, however they have a different finish than all the other kennedies in the collection. Almost like a bluish hue.
I linked the pictures below, the coin on the left has a T1 reverse and is a DDO, the one on the right is a normal 64 Kennedy business strike.
I looked at all of the pictures for the 1964 D DDO's and quadrupled die obverses on the PCGS website and none of them were paired with a T1 reverse.

@Watchbelieve.... Welcome aboard.... Are you asking if the DDO and T1 reverse is exceptional? Your question is not clear to me...if indeed, there is a question. Cheers, RickO
My question is... are there any known 1964d ddos with a t1 reverse. Also do the mint sets have a different finish than business strikes? Would this be the first DDO known for the 64d mint sets?
Here are some pictures of the other Kennedy (this one with a T2 reverse) that was separated from the rest but had a quarter, dime, nickel and penny with it.
And here it is compared with a regular business strike.
Did the mint sets have a different finish? I'm trying to figure out why they were separated in this manner.
Looks to me like a little haze and some toning. The coin has built a "skin" from the environment it was stored in..
Mint set coins for 1964 were all normal circulation strike pieces. Surface variations are part of normal die wear. Any abnormal color is environmental/post production.
PLEASE can anyone show me another example of a 1964-d Kennedy DDO with a T1 Reverse? Or is mine a unique coin.
T1 and T2? What's with that. New to me, any pics or references?

thank you.....I think.!!!
bob;)
I believe the difference you perceive as 'finish' is just haze/storage or early oxidation ..... I know of no different mint finishes for those coins. Cheers, RickO
Your question is very interesting! I have never noticed that the '64d's have the same markers as the 1964" Accented Hair " Variety. Here are the comparisons. Similar to what you're referring to. Hmmmm?
One More Thing... You may have discovered something there?
"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!
--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line.I seen the T1 on a BS strike before . Not a big deal these days .

the big deal is that I may have the only DDO 64-d with t1 reverse
I think many who have '64-D DDO halves have not checked for T1/T2 reverse, I know I haven't. I'll have to see what I've got.

Very very helpful. Thank you to all.
After reading the most interesting article on cointalk I had to screenshot it on my iPad and share what I have just learned. Whenever I find stuff like this, it reminds me that while it is good to take advice from others, it's best to dig and read and find out for yourself and trust your gut. THERE IS SUCH THING AS A 1964-D KENNEDY SPECIAL STRIKE
