1970s large date ddo

I found this in my pocket change yesterday. I'm hoping that someone with a bit more experience can verify that it is what I think it is. I'm just not 100% sure because all the ones I see have noticeable doubling over the entire coin. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

That appears, from those pictures, to be machine doubling.... it could be a minor DD variety, but I cannot determine that from those pictures...... Cheers, RickO

    Welcome to the forum
Remember folks...when the "doubling" doesn't EXACTLY match the doubled die you are hoping to have found...you havent found it.
Every doubled die variety is produced from the same die, producing the same doubled die coin for as long as the error goes undetected.
Machine doubling like the one in the OP is a curiosity, nothing more. Sometimes the machine doubling can be quite dramatic, and as such command a slight premium. But not much.

    Yep, keep looking.
If you grab a $25 bank box of cents, I would think you could find a minor ddo or two. Every 1-3 boxes, I'd find a significant variety, one that is in the cherrypicker guide.
The 1970-s ddo is one of the rarest doubled dies. Not many found in change.
If I were you, I'd buy a 1995 ddo and study it with a loupe. They can be bought on the cheap because they are so plentiful, but it is a classic ddo in the lincoln cent series and shows a great spread.
    Good luck!
