A couple of contemporary counterfeit NewP's

cmerlo1cmerlo1 Posts: 7,910 ✭✭✭✭✭

Got these yesterday- has anyone run across these before? I've owned a couple of different Barbers and seen some later-date Walkers, but this is the first time I've seen a 1918. From the amount of wear on them, I'd say they fooled quite a few people back in the day!

Those coins in the OP are very nice. I've got dozens of counterfeits to unload. If it is in the rules to sell/trade with other members, PM me. If it is in the rules, I will take a batch photo and number the examples to make choosing easy.

I'm going to read the rules for CU tonight or tomorrow. Please do not respond if we are not allowed to do this on CU!

Contemporary counterfeits are very collectable. However, it's generally only the die struck ones that have value. Mostly because there's no way to know if a cast copy is actually of the period, but also because cast copies have little visual appeal.

I do sort of enjoy looking at these contemporary counterfeits, and have thought about taking a shot at buying a few, but I just don't know enough about them. I feel like passing them along to the right people in the future might be difficult without that knowledge.

The little marble slab located on the front of the contemporary cash registers was used for the 'ring' test. These would have been caught.

This is a wonderful thing for the market. In the past if your slab attempt resulted in a bodybagged Counterfeit, you might have been out of options. Now, you do have an option - sell it - as a counterfeit.

Can we get them slabbed - as genuine counterfeits? Those fake Chinese Counterfeits are such a ripoff.

Very nice! I love counterfeits. Underappreciated. This is my counterfeit walker:

ICG grading service slabs counterfeits with a yellow "educational purposes only" label. Hopefully, all the other TPGS will follow. Only down side I can see is the loss of profit as you don't need to slab a fake and can just keep the fee and return the coin.
