That small eagle $10 is pretty dang scarce.

I would love to hear the story as to why each person needed to drill a hole in each of those coins!

    Gobrecht Dollar?

Basically, there's a whole lot of rarity there! (Just missing 1% or so of total volume.) :)

    The small eagle is a $5 not a $10

There was a 1794 50c, Lord Balt colonial,1796 25, pine tree shilling, gobrecht dollar and lots of other really cool coins-

The one in the lower left corner is pretty cool -- has CSA which I assume is Confederate States of America, and some writing around the edge -- can't read what is written!

I only see one without a hole.

I visit that display at least a few times at every Baltimore show. Cool stuff!

Those CSA dollars are heavily counterfeited. I wonder if that's a real one?

What percentage of value is lost bc of the hole? 95% my guess

I asked the owner of the set how much he has put into it and if I recall correctly I was told about $30,000

The hardest part of the collection was finding the coins with white circles on them.....those are super rare.......

I wish he had used more than 1 tray to spread them out, and maybe sort them out. I see a few there that I would be very thrilled to pay 20% for. Is the owner selling any or all?

They were not spread out for a reason. I believe they look alot more interesting in this way. And no he was not selling

Any collection that doesn't include grading companies and their plastic is one helluva fine collection.

Which means, in this market, that drilling a hole through a coin is almost as bad as cracking it out of a slab.

I believe the rarity is the 1836 Gobrecht.

My current coin collecting interests are: (1) British coins 1838-1970 in XF-AU-UNC, (2) silver type coins in XF-AU with that classic medium gray coloration and exceptional eye appeal.

Bottom right 8 Reales bust of Fernando VII without a date looks like an early (1813-14) Guadalajara Mint (reverse: mintmark Ga, assayer initials MR) minted in the early years of Mexico's War for Independence.

When I look at a display I like to see everything in it. I don't see a 1796 Quarter. Definitely a nice collection and I wish I had a chance to buy a few of them. Maybe I'll get to Baltimore sometime and meet a fellow collector of holed coins.

The rarity was actually multiple different coins. i forget them all but there were quite a few 5 figure coins with a hole in them.

I see no Quarter Eagles, no 1796 Quarter, and no $100,000+ coins. The $5 Small Eagle is the most expensive coin I see with the Gobrecht next, then the 94 Half. The way I see it.

Lots of folks drilled holes in them and wore them around their necks in the last century. My great-great aunt left me a "holey" trade dollar.

Did the collector collect them as period pieces like that?

Neat collection! Lots of stories there, I'll bet.
