1944 D/S Lincoln Cent - unknown variation ?

RoscoRosco Posts: 253 ✭✭✭✭

Need some help on this one please...
It somewhat looks like a 1944 D/S "LDS...FS 101" But the D is more vertical.
Then it appears to show vestiges of the 43 - 44 style S west of D...
And the 44 - 45 style S...slightly west but within the D.

Too much imagination and Scotch...or is critical review needed ??
10 pictures...Thank you for any input !!

Pareidolia - the tendency to perceive random
    patterns as something else.

You're seeing metal flow and other minor
anomalies on the coin, which come together
and make the eye see something that isn't there.

Keep searching, but realize that under a mag. glass,
you'll be seeing all sorts of things on a coins surface
    that look like other things.

Man! I'm glad I'm not a microscopic collector. I don't see anything either other than a vivid imagination!

Thank you gentlemen !!!!.....my vocabulary has been expanded (Pareidolia)....
And I'm putting my D36 Zeiss back in the box... and the Scotch back in the cabinet.

Keep the Zeiss out and the search going. You'll need the scotch when you do find that new variety, it's out there waiting to be found!

At first I thought that the lines from the edge were flow lines, but then it doesn't look like a late die state.

So I came to the conclusion that the die was re-worked in that area. Those are abrasion lines.

What was there was pretty much removed. Whatever it was, the Mint did a good job of removing it.

    Just my opinion, folks.

With the added 'S' drawn on the picture, one can imagine it.... but with out it, no.... not there. Cheers, RickO
