1896-S Barber Quarter - Little help with grade and value.

Hey guys, so I'm helping a lady friend sell this coin. I'm more of a modern coin guy so I was hoping I can get some input from you experts on this pre-32' coin. These photos are the best I have right now. I know it's a key date and I have a rough idea of what it's worth but I'd love to hear some input from you guys. Thanks in advance.

It would seem to me to be a fairly solid G-4. Look that up on all the price guides . . .including those supplied here by our host. I believe it would be gradeable from the photos supplied.

It looks like a G4 or G6, but more importantly, the surfaces look superb for the grade. It looks like die pair #2.

How are you guys seeing the pictures? I get a click for pictures into a sh*t storm of ads and the picture does not come up. I was going to say what I would pay based on the pictures!
"How are you guys seeing the pictures?"
Telepathy, my friend, telepathy...

I saw them earlier, but I don't see them now.
And now I see it again!
I'm in the solid G4 camp. Reverse is getting 6-ish.
Nice un-messed with surfaces.
Raw, you'll probably be offered respectable money for it but here are over 500 coins in both Good grades slabbed at pcgs so there's always some sitting in cases.
Solid G-4+
Pull it out of the holder.
I recently spotted one in a dealer's showcase that I was interested in getting [working on a roll
], took a bit but the MM was a touch too high, otherwise an excellent fake.

I see it now! Solid G6 in my opinion! PM me if you want a strong offer!
$350-$400
Nice old coin.... I agree with the above grades...and looks like you have some offers already.... Cheers, RickO
Hi guys, thank you very much for you sharing your knowledge and input. The coin has been sold.
Greysheet is $525 based on quality I would pay at least $500
LOL!
I guess this one deserves a DOUBLE LOL!
What exactly are you laughing about? Did you pay more or less for it?
DO NOT PAY $950 if that is the price. I like that coin at around 500 bucks...
Yes I paid more! Not $950 though! I have nice coins because I step up to the plate and pay. Sure...it might take a little longer to sell them, but they usually find a happy home!
Choice original G4, IMO. $500-600 easy based on the original surfaces; don't often see examples like this. Great quarter!

And this one deserves a really special LOL.
Some of the numbers thrown around above are more than graded examples. The whole gist of buying a raw coin is that you bought it cheap enough, so after it grades, if it does, you are ahead of the game. You paid more than real retail for a raw coin based on a photo. Go look up auction sales.
Do you have any money left? I'll go do some digging in the basement.
It looks like a nice coin. I'm glad it found a new home.
It's all about knowing what you are buying and knowing you can find a home for it. I have the inventory I have because people know that as a general rule I will pay more for it than anyone at the show....or elsewhere for that matter! What surprises me is folks who buy a coin from me and sell it to someone like you for a loss...and I buy it later at or above what I sold it for the last time!
PS! Go show me any auction result in the last 5 years that has anywhere near the look this coin has at the price you say it is worth!
That's what makes the world go round. The risk reward has to be there for me, and paying more than $500 for that coin, for me, is crazy. (You were laughing at the $500 offer above so we must assume it was $600-$700) For an 03 shot at 04, you paid too much.
Glad I know how to grade better than you!
Oh, I didn't notice the grade. That was fast, what did you get?
Has some detail in the reverse wings and maybe part of the y in Liberty that PCGS would grade it G 6 based on my submissions. Nice coin.
Nice full rims on both sides, great color, and no problems apparent from the picture: I agree that it should grade G-6 all day long. I'd pay $500 also.

Definitely slab worthy. I lie it at G4 with a reasonable shot at 6. I don't collect this series so I defer to others for value...

g4 is definatly a nice grade maybe a g6. the coin looks original and has nice surfaces
HAPPY COLLECTING
Love the look and color but there appear to be a couple of minor rim issues on the obverse....but they don't seem to bother anyone else and certainly not atypical for a well circulated coin.
I'm sure some long ago collector was thrilled when they found that coin in circulation or in an old jar of coins many years ago!
