So cool! 1961 Franklin Proof DDR - Grade posted in OP!!!

This one arrived yesterday. It was in a group of three 1961 sets that I grabbed at the BIN price of $54. The fat letters were clear in the seller's pics, but I still couldn't believe it until it arrived. Of course, it was the last set I looked at out of the package - I was already prepared for seeing another regular Franklin. I apologize for the pics - I just couldn't get them to come out decent through the mint cello. All the scuffs are on the plastic; the coin looks clean, my best guess is 66 +-1, it will go in with my next submission. It's my favorite Ebay cherry of the year!

Update: Holy cow!!! PR67!!! That makes it one of 18 at that grade with none higher (there is one “67+” and one CAM). I thought it had a shot at 67 but had tempered my expectations so as not to be disappointed. What a great surprise!

Yeah, I think that was a good purchase! It's not a subtle variety of the sort where one needs a microscope to see it, either. Very attractive variety and coin.

That is one helluva score! I've been looking for one for nearly 30 years with absolutely no luck.

Great find! I remember when I found my first DDR in one of those maligned "sealed" proof sets. My heart pounded for an hour or so.

this is why I look at every set even though the chances of scoring are slim, there are still vary valuable coins overlooked by sellers who should know better.

I was talking with a customer yesterday who had sold us a small group of sets a few days earlier, he inquired as to whether we had found anything. when I replied in the negative, he muttered something about not thinking there was stuff still to be found. I only told him what my boss would say if I ever missed a 1975 no MM Dime!! though the probability of finding one is slim to none it is a retirement coin.

    Congratulations!!!

Nice pick, dude! That variety is similar to the famous '55 Cent DD. No loupe needed to catch! Good for you. <3
