Flea Market Cherrypick - 1917 DDR FS-802 - Buffalo 5c

ManorcourtmanManorcourtman Posts: 8,442 ✭✭✭✭✭

So today I hit a local Flea market, looking for coins, but had little hope in actually finding anything to buy. To my surprise I found a nice ANACS AU58 Buffalo. I did not take any scope so I really had no right finding microscopic varieties! But I thought the coin was a tough DDR-002 example. This variety is far from dramatic so to most it is far from exciting. But I have hunted this DDR for many years. Today I finally found one! As mentioned it is in a ANACS AU58 holder, unattributed. It is now raw! The doubling is on EPU. It is very subtle but is there to the Northeast on several letters of EPU. There are no good pics of the variety anywhere!! So anywho, here it is.......no laughing please!! Us variety nerds search for this kind of stuff!!

Cool and exciting when making finds like this.
Purchased half a 60 mint set and found this.

The thrill of the hunt! I've never scored at a flea market, though. Congrats!

a nice find even though some would say a minor variety. doubled die reverse, die number two! way to go.

That die was discovered by an excellent local cherrypicker here in Northeast Ohio by the name of Don Lomler.
