Traditionally it has always been that you have 3 opportunities to make an offer. I noticed today that they have extended it to 5 opportunities to make an offer. interesting...

Right now, I have about 230 items on ebay, 98% have best offer. A lot sell for listed price, and I reject a lot of offers, as my reject is set at $1. If I have 10 of something, I may accept a lower offer than if it is my last one, or I may accept a lower offer if I am tired of looking at it.

I have been successful with best offers a few times.... Only rejected once that I remember - that must mean my best offer left money on the table in all the other cases... :D That is OK.... I was comfortable at the price I paid. Cheers, RickO

  • I do not care for the counter offer concept. I always make my maximum offer, and I think it gives the seller too much temptation to ruin the deal when they may end up getting even less in the future. Ive been on both ends of that stick.

Increasing it to 5 times is interesting. Usually, 3 is more than enough. If people can conclude the deal is 3 or less, increasing to 5 could be a psychological benefit to convince people it's worth the time to negotiate.

I like the counteroffer because you get to understand the other party's perspective.

    Well....I.....don't....know......
I'm looking at a $1000 coin that IS nice for the grade.
BUT..... I made an offer. Closer to 750 "guide" retail.
He countered. To a price only $150 above that guide.

    And so it sits.

BUT..... I am still pondering. I think I'd pay 100 over..... but....well..... hmmmmm......

    dammit!

I set my minimum acceptable price and will not negotiate lower than that number.

I have also been very successful with best offers. Only a couple got away and they are still for sale on ebay. Still there. I thought it cost money to list on ebay. 5 offers to buy may work for ebay...
