Ever hit an auction house limit while bidding?

I have not and have often placed bids on many lots at pretty significant prices.
A decade ago, a dealer that I was doing substantial business with, hosted a series of live auctions. They placed a limit on my activity. I passed entirely on the live events for that reason, though continued to buy regularly listed items from the them.

I've exceeded my limits at Heritage and S-B on single occasions. Not because the limits were insultingly low, but because I put in too many "placeholder" bids on big coins. But it was easy enough to get the limits raised, so no problem.

BTW, I believe that all bidders have limits at those two firms.

The first bid that I placed with Legend Auctions was over 65K. I bid online so a notice came up that said my bid was on hold until further approval. A few hours later it was approved. I suspect I was originally approved for a lesser amount and after a bit of research the amount was raised. BTW, I don't think I was ever directly contacted.

I think I went over by a few thousand when I was bidding on a 1796 No Stars Quarter Eagle. They accepted my bids and my checks so things worked out okay. I've have never come close since then.
Really didn't know how high of a limit to ask for. Coin market was wild at the time and it was tough to determine how much coin I might be bidding on. Live experience was new to them so I understood their caution.
Generally ask and you should be accommodated. I do not take anything to personal. I would do the same in my business

I know my limit at stacks it stated when I log in, I have no idea what my heritage limit is, I'm sure there is some figure where I would have to get approval, but not sure, never hit it , so I don't know. I haven't won anything above 70k in auction, so it doesn't matter. I had stacks raise mine a few years ago when the Battle Born sale came up, but was unsuccessful on a couple of lots.
When I showed up at Pogue 2 they saw my limit and said well........we better raise yours ( it was pretty pedestrian) And they did.....by a lot on the spot.
