1924-D............The Forgotten Buffalo

It's been a long time since I've done a story about a Buff. The 1924-D has in my opinion been overshadowed and lost in the myriad of rare date Buffalo Nickels, and is, in itself, a coin to be reckoned with in its' own right.
This date and mint has always been one of my favorite nickels.
It's time to tell the story, and I'll post it soon.

Looking forward to it.
Frankly I think most of the 'D' mint coins from the 1920's are tough to find in VF-AU with a decent strike.
The 1924d buffalo is sure tough to find in nice upper circulated grades.

So many of those late-teens through mid-twenties branch mint Buffs are nearly nonexistent with good strikes and great eye appeal. They are really tough coins.

I've always said the same, that the 24-D is a truly underrated date.

Indeed, this is a tougher date than many people think.
It's one of the rarest with a full strike. In the very extensive strike study I did from 2001 thru 2013 I didn't see a single fully struck example of this date-over 600 Mint State and near Mint State coins. It's almost always weak at the front of the bison's head and the corresponding tip of the uppermost feather on the obverse.
@BuffaloIronTail ....I look forward to your story.... Cheers, RickO

Another tough one in high grades.
