Super cool, thanks for the chance to win :)

My grandfather was a WWII Army Air Core pilot. Before he went on to glory (about 10yrs. prior to), I was able to get him to tell me some of his experiences. Namely being shot down and surviving 10mos. In a Germany POW camp. This laid the foundation for my patriotism and reverence for our service men and women.

I remember your Veteran's Day contest well :)
Congrats to you for still being here, having fun, and contributing.

For the Veteran's part......not only do I want to thank EVERYONE that served honorably, but in particular, just about all of my male family members. I can't think of any, on either my mom's side, nor my dad's side, that didn't serve. Even one of my aunts served. They, like all vets, put their lives on the line just by signing up. You never know where you will go or what you will do.
From my uncles on back, they all served in war zones (Vietnam, WW2, etc) and, if luck had been bad, I may never have been here, so I am thankful not only for what they did in serving their country, but in the luck that kept them safe (as safe as possible...lost an uncle, recently, to complications from agent orange in 'nam :( that got worse and worse over the years).

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

You did say to "fly a flag", right?

Thank you very much for your generosity. I am a veteran of the Air Force 1996-2000. I served in Korea for a year, where technically we are still at war with. A peace agreement was never signed, only a cease fire. I was surprised to find out that my tour at Osan AB qualifies me to join the VFW, I have not and I probably won't, only because I don't consider myself worthy of it. I did not see any armed conflict and don't consider myself as having partaken in any war. There are so many more worthy individuals that deserve it. I stand behind them and fully support everything this country needs to do to take care of them.

I thank every man and woman I come across in uniform for their service, it's the least I can do to show my respect and appreciation for their commitment to our country and our freedom. Those that have given their lives to protect our freedom have a special place in heaven. They are the true hero's and it is because of them that we remember them on Memorial Day.

I fly an American Flag on my desk every day. My daughter was given it in first grade and she gave it to me. It fly's next to a dummy 30mm round that I brought home from Korea as a reminder of the cost of freedom.

My grandfather who passed away in 2010 served in WWII in the Pacific. It was not until after he passed away that I learned that he had participated in some of the worst battles of the Pacific. He made it through all those battles and finished his tour of duty during the occupation of Japan. He never spoke about what he saw except a few times when he had had a few drinks. My family still know's very little of what he saw or did.

Just this past Christmas after my grandmother passed away, I was given my grandfathers Combat Infantry Badge that he wore on his dress green's. It brought a tear to my eye to become the next custodian of it. I felt blessed as I know the meaning behind it and what it meant to have received it. I just wish I could have known more about his service and talked to him about it before he passed on.

A huge THANK YOU to all the members of the Armed Forces past and present.

My Grandfather served in the Marines (1949-1953) and was stationed in Puerto Rico for some time (I have 2 coconuts he picked up off the beach in 1951).... He was a man's man that smoked non filter cigarettes and watched John Wayne movies almost every time he turned on the TV... He was one of the hardest workers and one of the best teachers anyone could ever have. He passed away in 2001 and I still have and cherish most of his military belongings.

Happy Memorial Day to all Service members Past and Present!

And Thank You also to @1630Boston for the chance to enter his giveaway!

    Successful trades.... MichaelDixon,

@1630Boston ...Thank you for this giveaway.....I served in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1963... All aboard a tin can except for Radio School.... We were right in the middle of the Cuban Crisis... and standing on the fantail during a break, we looked out and saw three (3) periscopes trailing us...they were Russian submarines... and our Sonar guys had NOT picked them up... We called the bridge to alert them... the Captain was pissed....

Ok since I may enter twice a day, this is one of the unforgettable moment of my basic training. True Story.

In my platoon, there was a Specialist, last name, D*ck and a Private last name ,Balls. And of course, our drill sergeants would always pair them up in the buddy system.

    Lol, oh my.!.!

My uncle (who is a year older than me and we share a close bond) just retired from the Army. He brought home Iraqi money from his time spent over seas.

I want to thank all the men and women who sacrifice everything for everyone!
    God Bless You All.!.!

I bet you have some stories to tell Ricko. You were right in the middle of the $%!( with the Cuban missile crisis. One of my favorite movies is Thirteen Day's with Kevin Costner.

I visited my Uncle Ray who was a officer in the Army and stationed at Fort Jay on Governors Island sometime in the 1950s. I went down on a train with my grandfather from my hometown of Amsterdam, NY.

Just this past weekend I had the privilege of visiting the Island again after over 60 years and taking a National Park Ranger guided tour of Castle Williams. The Island has an amazing military history spanning over 200 years. If you are in the area and you have a few hours of free time I highly recommend you visit.

Except for the small area owned(?) and managed by the National Park Service the Island is now owned and managed by the City of New York so who knows what its future fate will be.

Strange. the spelling of the word "Compleated" on the 1811 date sign. Usually it is spelled without the "a".
