1883 cent Snow-1; to Blue Ribbon or not?

Hello All, I am back to collecting (and the CU boards) after a number of years away. I am organizing some older stuff and in my Indian Cent varieties came across this beautiful 1883 "1" in the neck variety. The coin appears to be a very well struck unblemished UNC, but is under a serious haze of verdigris. I am well-acquainted with a quick Blue Ribbon treatment, but I hesitate on this one as it is such a nice coin hiding under there. Granted, this is relative to my level of collecting...
Any suggestions on how to stabilize this cent without long term damage?
Otherwise, feel free to post a "1" in the neck photo or your favorite MPD!
Best,
MH

Welcome to the boards.
It sure looks like heavy PVC on that coin. Blue Ribbon on a Q-tip would remove it. Just be sure not to leave the excess Blue Ribbon on the coin. Also, don't allow the junk you remove to become an added abrasive on the Q-tip.
I'm not seeing the 1 in neck - good luck!
Thanks for the moral support @EagleEye ! I gave it a go and certainly cut the haze; lots of green on the swab. Looks like a solid problem free cent now. My photos are not that great, but @Lakesammman should be able to see the "1" below the pearls now. . Note that the shadow around "United States" is die deterioration and not oil/gunk.
Nice work.... Cheers, RickO
Aha - nicely done!
Very nicely done...it does not even look like the same coin...not saying that it is not...what a difference!
