Anybody else get any "botched sonic welds" lately?

Got a one coin order (reholder/variety) back and it rattled! Sounded just like an old rattler. But I could not get the coin to "rotate" like rattlers will- it seemed securely held by the gasket. While trying to decipher what was going on here I squeezed the slab and it popped a bit. Came to realize the current holder actually has inner and outer halves (think "cointain" ) and with weld not proper it allowed the inner half to come partially in and out of the outer shell when bumped or shaken, making a noise. I am sure if I wanted to I could get the slab to cleanly come apart!
Be careful!
I know PCGS wants these back so they can fix them but an unscrupulous fellow could do a switcheroo with one of these.

I've heard of that, luckily haven't had any of mine come back that way.
Are you going to send it back?
My YouTube Channel
Yep
Had one last year.

Couple out of my recent subs have been a little warped, just enough that I can wobble it a little diagonally on a table top and somewhat noticeable when stacked with other slabs. They seem to be solid though.
Collector, occasional seller
I stumbled on the above while polishing the slab for photography.
If you twist the slab and it makes a little cracking noise chances are it's not sealed properly. A little more torque and you can get enough separation to slip a fingernail between the two halves of the holder and pull them apart.
Crazy that we're still seeing this occasionally. The opportunity for unscrupulous meddling is pretty scary.

Lance, I crack up every-time I see that slab above.
GeorgiaCop - are you talking about a current generation holder?? WOW!
Yes
Wow interesting. I have has one with similar symptoms but I have not tried to pull it apart yet.
I guess you were able to do a TrueView style image on that one.
Does it reseal neatly so as to not void the guarantee if you open one by accident?
If you can get a PCGS "sample" label with that $1, I'll pay top dollar!!!
Wow... I have not encountered this yet... Thanks for the alert.... Cheers, RickO
Not good
I had that happen recently tapped the slab to rotate the coin and it just opened up.
There is no seal. So when you put it back together it is like a capsule. It wont just fall apart, but it will come apart if you want.
Exactly! I love shooting raw coins. And yes, it goes back together with no evidence it was ever apart.
The two slab halves fit together snugly with a shoebox-like construction. So even unsealed they don't separate easily. Kinda like Air-Tite holders...hard to open.
If you inadvertently wrestle with it as I did, or as Todd found by rapping a corner to rotate the coin, it separates enough to wiggle it open.
