Progress and Failure on 2017 Proof Sets & Proof 2017-W ASE

Proof sets:
I foolishly ordered these when I don't have that much time (ok, no time), but I went through them for my usual <67 returns. (think about 200 might yield a 70)
The quarters were mostly stellar. The MO and DC quarters had nice use of the shiny areas for water
I note that many of the DC quarters I received had a slight but obvious die rotation on them.
The biggest issue is with the cent, next the dollar, then the half.
The cent has lots of bubbling. lots. if only it resembled chicken pox instead of hives.
there was a lot of streaking in the fields on the dollar and the half had hazing issues.
2017 ASE:
for OGP people, we embark upon a journey with a new capsule lid design where there is no raised rim. The lid above the coin is entirely raised above the rest of the lid.
Outside of the usual small die wear issues and strike-throughs, they were mostly great. Only a few had frost breaks. Most did not.
There were a few with a slightly but noticeable misaligned die.
I do note the 2 in 2017 has a weak base on the right, or at least mine did.
Comments
Thanks MsMorrisine for the report. I'll get a clad proof, and probably the limited edition silver. Has quality maintained over the past 5 years "in general," or, have you noticed a decline in overall quality with proof sets, and ASE?
Thank you,
Rich
for me:
it went way up on the quarters nickel dime
way down on the cent
about the same on the dollar and half.
strongly up on the ASE
My S & W ASE's have been immaculate..... Have not purchased proof of mint sets in years... Cheers, RickO
