Thoughts on this Standing Liberty Quarter...

Years ago, I cracked this out of an old ANACS green holder to go into my type album. It is graded XF-40. Looking at it more closely, I am curious as to what the darker 'spots' are. I remember buying it because I thought it was unique looking. What do you think?

Has the coin always had the 'green' tinge to it? The darker spots seem to be from some light residual contamination.....You could try an acetone bath... will not hurt the coin in any way, and if the spots are organic, they will be removed. Be sure to rinse well... I use alcohol then hot running water.... Cheers, RickO
Yes, ever since I've owned it. I bought it because it looked like that.

I did not know that ANACS had an old green holder. I've seen the white, blue and gold...but not green. Agreed with ricko on the acetone bath/rinse.

There are green letters, perhaps I mis spoke and it is the white holder.
Took your advice and acetoned it, came out much better! thank you!

I still see what looks like PVC under "WE TRUST". I would dip it in acetone again and really swish the coin around in it. imho
Ok, I will keep that in mind, although I went over the whole coin.

My concern on this coin is the reverse. The reverse appears to have the spotted corrosion on the coin. I would definitely give it an acetone bath and try to stop the corrosion.
Here is the reverse after acetone

I'd have left it in the XF holder personally. Looks like a 30-35 coin to me plus it has the look of something that was fussed with at some point prior. No offense. Perhaps I'd like it better in hand but I don't know that this gets back into a straight grade holder again. But, if you don't care about that then it doesn't matter.

There is no offense over the internet. I agree with you. I would not buy this coin today, but I bought it many years ago when I was less informed. I think we all can say we've done that. I do not plan on getting it re slabbed. I will likely use it as trade bait towards an upgrade piece.

I think that is a great idea.
