Is it just a matter of time before US Mint opens a CC branch to strike limited #s of moderns??

A few truck loads of equipment and a few hundred thousand ounces of silver amd gold.
Likely a good quick ROI.
I could see the Nevada congressional group pushing this................

Far too expensive. Congress would have to appropriate the funds for everything.
Well, the CC coin press #1 is still used to strike commemorative Nevada State Museum silver rounds with the CC mint mark. That's probably the closest we'll get.
I hope you are correct for various reasons. But...I drive by the mint every day and it is quite a small building with tiny rooms.
CC
Thought that was why they opened West Point?
For those interested in CascadeChris's references to the existing coin press #1 and the commemorative Nevada State Museum silver rounds, here is a link to a thread I posted that includes photos of both.
Make sure you continue through the thread to see CascadeChris's post near the end that has a video clip of theCC coin press #1 in action.

West Point is where the Mint produces all the gold coins and most of the commemoratives. Occasionally they will farm some things out to either Philadelphia or Denver and of course San Francisco does proofs and commemoratives as well.
The Mint will not be opening branches again in either New Orleans or Carson City as the cost would be way too much. What seems simple is far more complex when dealing with the federal government.
Maybe Google will start making coins for the US? They just bought 1,200+ acres near the Tesla factory in Reno...A new mintmark: R
bob:)
"What seems simple is far more complex when dealing with the federal government." Or -- any other business or organization.
They probably bought it as a speculation investment to sell it to Tesla for a profit once they decide to expand. Some investors made big bucks buying up land around Amazon fulfilment centers on the cheap then selling parcels to Amazon for expansion.
Unless they're planning on some sort of Tesla / Google integration
Why not issue a 2018-cc unc morgan dollar? If the moonlight mint can do it, so can the us mint!!!
a no brainer whose time has come.
a.k.a "The BUFFINATOR"
That would be a major hot product.... A CC dollar coin... I think it would be a sellout in the first ten minutes.... Cheers, RickO
Correction - Ten Seconds
@hutze1nm .... Likely correct, if the Mint order system could handle orders at that speed.... more likely it would crash....

A little off topic, but was wondering if anyone has had experience with the UPMA, they're a gold and silver repository in Utah. They claim to offer accounts denominated in gold and silver dollars--in the form of legal tender. Would appreciate any info that can be shared.
I took a wrong turn near West Point recently and accidently came across the mint there. Looks like a tiny max security prison situated at the foot of a ski area. Very bizarre. Small innocuous sign near the street. Not open to the public.
