A new piece I would love to share with the forum. Capped bust half dollar
I'm not so hot on variety's on these capped bust half dollars. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance, Joe

That's about the easiest variety to ID with THAT reverse!!!
Nice looking coin!
Beautiful! Love the clash marks too.
What is it then? Anybody?

No where near my specialty, but I do like it

An absolutely gorgeous bust half!
Thank you. Much appreciated.
Very pretty and lots going on with that one. Congrats!!
Thanks for sharing, she's a beauty! Don't have any, but if I did
I would want her to look like that. Congrats!
I bought it for it's eye appeal. I sold my other one to Robec, Bob, a few years back and I've had a hole in my collection ever since. Not to mention sellers remorse. It's taken this long to find a decent replacement. I'm not about to sell this one anytime soon.
Thanks again and happy hunting, Joe
Excellent.
Extremely attractive, and a better date in the series.
It may be an R1 as a variety, but you don't see many attractive 1814's around.
.
There is a lot going on with that one. Gorgeous bustie Joe
What a lovely coin!
I'm thinking if I added that coin to my collection I might just stop.... Find a really comfortable chair and just stare at it thinking it doesn't get any better than this.... Beautiful example.
Successful trades.... MichaelDixon,
Very cool piece! Love the color.
Congrats-terrific coin

You bet I do! That's a favorite of mine.
The die break from left wing to scroll is an easy pick up point for attribution. The obverse is almost always heavily clashed. You can even read the letters in the scroll just above "81" on the example I have.
Great choice and great coin, Joe!
Now please go back to your gorgeous nickels and nobody gets hurt.
Lance.
No problem! What's this one graded?
It's just a funky 53....
Nice!!!

That 1814 has incredible eye appeal! Wow!!
Absolutely beautiful!
Gorgeous.

I was thinking a 55.
Then I shouldn't have said anything
Great looking bust half!
And one of my favorite years too, congrats!

That can't possibly be a die crack, can it? I've never seen an internal crack that was that thick, and stopped so abruptly. Any different die states?
I always thought it was an errant tool mark of some kind.
Yes it's a quite large die break. I bought the coin for its eye appeal. So im not any kinda expert on the varieties. Many people on this board are experts on these capped bust half dollars but it not me.
No sir.
Well done sir! Well done indeed!

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Gorgeous looking coin! Congrats!
Al Overton called it a "die defect ridge". Whatever. It came from die fatigue, not engraver blunder.
Lance.
That is a very interesting coin. I am intrigued by the metal flow around the edges and how, on some stars, the point is almost 'dragged' to the edge .... I am sure the metal flow had something to do with the die design.... Cheers, RickO
Nice!

Let's see---early date, cool variety, good grade, eye appeal that's off the charts.....hmmm. What's not to like? Very well done!!

That is an "all there" o.103 AU53. Nice coin!
Love that color, Joe!
Might be an old thread, but pretty coins deserve to be ogled again from time to time!
Lovely bulls eye toning. I like it a lot. Looks great in hand I would bet. Edit to say looks like old Dansco or newer PCI toning.
Now that's knockout color!
Beautiful coin, Joe. Pretty obvious an 0-103 with the reverse. Congrats, are you spreading out from the herd?
If so, you have picked a wonderful series of coins.
