Lets add in the assumption that both the buyer and seller are both well known on this forum. In other words, nothing shady at all.

Neither, I'm to afraid I'll get killed or they will lose the package or say they never got it, immaterial of any confirmations...

When I sold a lot of coins, with one exception I never agreed to a local pickup. Too many potential problems as well as the extra time consumed.

I suppose the exact same philosophy could be applied to not wanting your home address out there as well?

I offered to buy a small parcel @ $450 cash with a local pick up instead of paying $465 to have that parcel shipped to me. This is a fun forum, and its awesome to be able to share pics of monsterous stacks of metals with eachother. But because I have shared my personal stack pics with fellow forumites, the last thing I'd like any of you to have is my name and home address. Metals are fun, as long as you are relatively safe about it.

Honestly, I'd prefer $465 and just drop the package off in the mail.

I'd also only meet in person if it were someone I've done business with before, and I never meet at my home. Always somewhere semi-public not far from my place.

When you buy metals from someone who knows you are a collector, would you prefer to meet in a public place to pick them up, or are you comfortable handing over your home address to them?

That would work great if one bought and sold at a volume needed to justify the expense. But what about those who may want to make 1 or 2 small purchases per year?

Buying from a reputable dealer, paying electronically and "giving them your address" is fine. I have done it on many occasions. If you buy anything on Ebay they "have your address" too.

Wow! Im baffled that you fail to understand the difference between buying an item from a random Ebay user who has NO KNOWLEDGE of what you may or may not own, and buying from a forum member who has SEEN much of what you own through threads and posts. Joe Schmoe on Ebay has no idea that I collect bullion when I buy a silver coin from his page. I don't care that he has my address....he has no reason to traverse hundreds or even thousands of miles on some whim. But collectors here have seen me post $25,000 worth of gold in 1 shot....they are the ones that I wish to keep my address from. Again....how you do not see the distinction is beyond me!

I understand Gecks apprehension. That's why I'm not a big fan of full stack pics. Weekly pick ups in the porn threads are cool but that's as far as I'm comfortable with.
