A better question is why are you so obsessed with his card?

Man - I leave for a few hours and someone gets their panties in a bunch? What part of this don't you understand, and are you still on a rant about the 53 Mantle like last summer Crisser? Nobody is trying to deceive anyone about the card, I am not selling it, and can't believe sharing an image of a card would cause you so much pain. You called me a liar over the summer because I stated that I have had offers in the 5 figure range for the card and you said that was not true and I would have sold it if that was the case. Everyone knows I had it reviewed because I posted it on the board. Not keeping tabs of what I did 9 months ago and being obsessed about it does not make someone a liar, but for a poster to be so obsessed about someone else's card makes me wonder about you. Card is a PSA 5 will almost always be a 5, but when I can spend a small percentage on what my PSA 8 53 Mantle cost me and it looks just as good I really enjoy that part.

People that worry about everyone else's business on here, constantly troll and bait people, are constantly negative... find not too many people will like to be around them or deal with them. I enjoy this hobby and collecting cards, but what is even more enjoyable are the friends I have made and people i have met. Not to mention the knowledge on this board is incredible, and several have been nice enough to help out and provide advice on cards, conditions, things to look for, things to avoid... I am still learning and will continue to learn, but the curve has been sped up with the great collectors I call friends now - can't put a price on that.

If you want to dog people like you did with BBCE in your earlier post or myself or all of the other posters at least do it the right way - don't hide behind a screen name or alt.

Ok. So you just forgot that you had it reviewed or didn't show it around the National?

Sorry, I don't buy it. I think you know exactly what you are doing.

Yep - you got me. I posted a photo of a PSA 5 card in a PSA 5 card thread from my personal collection that is not for sale or being sold anywhere. I must have some nefarious motive for dong that. I mean who posts a photo of a card that matches the thread title?

Wonder if PSA will grade this for me. I will make "someone" a really good deal on it with free shipping!

I saw a lot of really beautiful cards. The Clemente is gorgeous as well as a 1960 Mantle I saw. I am amazed at how nice the 5's and 6's can be. And the best thing is, we get a gorgeous card at a more reasonable price. I have 2 cards that will be on my next submission, I'm taking a chance, as both of the cards are currently in SGC holders. But they're so nice looking, I'm hoping maybe to get (should I say it and jinx myself?) the same grade or higher. One of the cards is the 1958 Topps Mantle All-Star and the other is the 1957 Mantle/Berra Power Hitters. Both were graded 6.5. Wish me luck.

i'd say this is a precise example of what thwarts people from posting scans of their cards and probably a major contributing factor for the overall decline of this place.

    thanks crisser.

    eta: its just sad.

My favorite 5 from football and from baseball. Both are rookie cards. The Staubach card is very hard to find with this kind of centering.

  • please send me the CU clique application ..i have yet to receive one

  • I thought everyone in these boards were already in the same clique, now I find there is a clique within a clique ... I am pissed off !!!!

That has to be one of the nicest 4's I've seen. Perhaps a wrinkle in the back helps explain it?

Matt, the 53 Bowman Mantle is awesome. What is the defect that made it a 2.5?

    ? Muffins? Huh?

It is so funny that you guys choose to attack the poster who pointed out that someone misremembered that he took a potentially 5 figure card to the National and had it reviewed.

1954 can feel me - he knows the owner knows what he's doing. I'd want to buy it too if I needed it

You still on here whining and crying about the 53 Mantle card? I cannot believe the nerve of these posters attacking someone because they are still crying and stalking a 53 Mantle card that they don't own, is not for sale, and was posted in a thread about PSA 5 cards and oh my gosh - the card is a PSA 5!!

Seems to me and everyone else that nobody cares if I took it to the 2014, 2015, 2016 National, Sun Times, Fanattics, local flea market... had it reviewed, or did not have it reviewed, lied my butt off, did not remember, made an honest mistake... It is not your card, and the whole card market is just a bubble anyways and going to crash so who cares?

I have never met you before and you have not seen the card since it was only shown to a couple of good friends who are dealers at the National and you were not there. Just like you said I took it to the 2015 National, which I did not since I did not have it insured and did not want to risk it, so how would you have seen it there if I never met you and never brought the card?

Now you have earned the dreaded double bottle award :D

I think Chrissy would do well to get his Obsession trucked in by the quart, or gallon. He does seem very price-conscious, after all.

I love threads like this. Lots of nice cards shown. Tons of great low to mid grade cards that look much better. Some of my favorite cards are below and fall in that category. Nothing better than centered nice mid grade cards.

Orioles - I agree and have started to focus more on mid grade cards (PSA 4-6) with strong centering and eye appeal. Figure the difference in price is somewhere in the 60-80% off range, and by finding lower grades that hopefully look better it stretches your card budget. This has been one of my favorite pickups in the last couple of years and first ever Bowman card. This one is a PSA 4.

Some pretty awesome mid and low grade examples being posted. The Staubach rookie is incredibly tough to find with decent centering nice example posted by TheMick. KendallCat that Mantle in 4 is amazing. Corners are incredible on that card.

Here are a couple of my Willie cards that look pretty good in mid-grade to me.

JB - wow on the 54 Mays! What the heck did they ding it for? That is my kind of card. Some day I need to post some photos of my Bench stuff - been a fan since I was 5 years old and watched him as a young kid in the 75 WS. Did a complete run of all Bench cards a long time ago, and need to finish my current one. One piece of eye candy for you :)

Early to mid 70's Rawlings Bench catchers glove signed by Johnny. He has been super nice, and has signed several things for my son including personalized a picture of the two of them. Pretty neat to see my childhood idol hanging out with my son.

KC, that glove is a an awesome piece to have. I have a nice run of Bench cards but no autos or other memorabilia.

The 54 Mays has some upper right corner damage that probably kept it from getting better. You certainly need to post some photos of your Bench collection.

Thanks. I actually cracked it out, looked it over with a magnifying glass thinking I obviously missed something. Sent it back in to PSA and it came back minimum size. I give up LOL.

Wow some amazing cards on here. Love the Kaline rookie, JBrules Mays cards and all of Orioles. These cards would not look out of place in PSA 8 holders. Great finds!!

Bought this raw for $50. Probably not worth much more than that now, however don't find a need to spend the $ on a 7-8. Would not be able to get one with this centering. Razor three corners. Top right has a matchstick bubble bringing it down.

  • mattyc_collectionmattyc_collection Posts: 2,127 ✭✭✭✭✭

That 71 Roberto blows away many in higher grades. Centering is perfect and still boasts smooth black edges and some pinpoint corners! At $50 that's a massive win bro, congrats.

One of my fave fives. Teeny weeny little barely visible surface worm just to the right of the tip of the Capitol Building drags down the grade (scratches are on the holder). You can tell by the look on Harmon's face that he thinks it's technical poopy.

  • JBrulesJBrules Posts: 2,126 ✭✭✭✭✭

Sweet Roberto! Well done with that raw pickup.

    Beautiful Clemente!

Wow. Surely worth beyond the $50. I would trade most 7s for that.

Thanks everyone! I really like the card and knew prior to buying it and sending it in that it's technical entombment would be low. It was just so damn sharp and centered. Fives are selling in the $50-$75 range.

Nice. I could live with this card despite the flaw.
