Finally found my 1934-D small "D" Mercury Dime.

After years of searching for this variety I finally found one I liked on ebay raw. It should 64 or 65. The large D coin pictured is a PCGS65 coin. This variety is not rare. I have read that 1 out of 10 is the small D. You just don't see that many to select from. This is the 3rd example I have come across and the 1st that I liked well enough to pull the trigger on. As you can see the size is not that much different, but the PUP is the inside opening of the mintmark. On the large more common size the opening is larger and half circle shape while the small variety has a smaller opening that is more of a triangle shape pointing right. The large size was used 1934-1945 while the small size was used 1917-1934. This is probably boring to many, but maybe interesting to some. Thanks for looking and as always....comments welcome.

Absolutely incredible! Nice find!
Nice!!
nice find, congrats and well worth the wait
Well Good for you, dude! It's funny, I just recently found (or thought to have found) the "small D" in the Washington Quarter series? The 1934d as well. Further review, I suppose I don't have it? At least you seem to have your "small D"?

Here are my two 1934d's. Not so successful as you are, though?

joeykoins - I'm not famaliar with the 34-D Quarter mm's. It's hard to tell from the pics as both are filled and look to be the same size.
OK, Thanks! Yeah, they are both filled. This is why I grabbed them. Thinking any "filled D's" are the small D variety. I was wrong.

@joeykoins .... Those 'D's' 'appear' to be in slightly different locations on the quarters....may be the picture or the wear... just mentioning that little detail... Cheers, RickO
Yeah, you're right RickO. They are. I did notice that when I purchased them. Thinking that these were the "small D" variety but I was told no. Thanks
