1966/67 SMS Toning Question

I haven't handled an SMS set in a while so I forget - can they be opened and then re-packaged? Can they be artificially toned in the OGP? What is the prevalence of natural toning in these sets if any? Asking so I can make better informed buying decisions.

    Ebay seller has a ton of negative feedback for AT. I should probably just post a link because they are probably AT: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1966-5-Coin-Silver-United-States-Special-Mint-Set-BU-MS-Rainbow-Color-Toned-Gem-/282419177923?hash=item41c17ea9c3:g:zCQAAOSw3utY4Yt~

    Those sets were packaged in snap together holders. Simple to open and swap out coins.

    In my quest for cameos and varieties, I have rarely (if ever) found any toned coins that appealed to me. If I did find any, i would surely have purchased the set.

    Anti-glazing mint processes kept these from toning in the first place. Plus, aren't these proof-like?

    All of your questions, I think, have been answered? Yes, I love these Sets! Like mentioned, these are a target for Varieties. or even sought out for Cameo's. but toned ones. I don't know? I'm constantly opening these sets to examine even closer. ;)
    One More Thing...Yes, these are considered to be Proof Sets but technically, NO.
    Forget the toning, here is what a key variety in the SMS sets looks like;

    On the Reverse, the initials, "FG" are completely missing! This is a high premium Variety in the SMS family. There are many more.

    That set on ebay is definitely AT and not the original coins.... Cheers, RickO

    Yep-you want to avoid this guy by all means. He's been reported to ebay many times but ebay, in their great wisdom, just keeps allowing him to list this junk.
